Bases on balls, off Wallace, 1; Lewis, 2. . Three-sackers were the order of the day in the Erskine game and finally won the thrilling contest for the Seceders. The game was featured by the heavy hitting of Wolfe and Sherer in the sixth, Sherer getting two three sackers and Wolfe one. The score was four all until the eighth inning when Erskine managed to get the winning counter across, making the final count 5 to 4. Brice pitched for Erskine; Snipes start ed for Carolina but was relieved by Wal lace in the third inning. A ninth inning rally was all that saved the Furman Hornets from defeat, for the score was 3 to 2 against them at the beginning of the last round. How ever, the rally did wha't rallics are sup posed to do and the final score was 4 to 3 in favor of the Hornets. Brodie's hit in the ninth with the bases CA; loaded counted Truluck, who had doubled to left field, and Andrews, who was c safe on Snipe's error of Kern's throw to first. Snipes, of Carolina, and Carter, of Furman, led the hitting of the game with three safeties each. Carter tuck ed away a pair of doubles. Andrews and Parler staged a hurling duel, the Furman pitcher fanning nine men and Parler whifling six. Carolina's three runs came as the re sult of hard hitting, especially on the part of Kern, Snipes and Bill Holland, the veteran catcher. The hits were bunched in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings, the final tahy giving Carolina a one run lead. In the fourth Kern snigled to right after Dick rolled to Carter. Snipes sin gled to left and Kern was caught at third trying to stretch the hit to the hot corner. Truluck made a quick re turn of the hit. Bill Holland crashed one against the boards in center and Snipes counted. Rhame hit slowly to short and Holland was caught at the plate in an attempted double steal. In the eighth Kern walked, stole sec ond and counted on Snipe's double to center. Holland flew to Truluck for the third out. Carolina counted in the eighth for her last time. Dick fanned. Kern doubled to deep right. Snipes advanced him to third with a single to left and Bill Holland's bludgeon again swung for a hit and a run. The game settled after the third into a virtual pitching battle between An drews and Parler and when Carolina took the lead in the eighth it looked as if Furman was good for a loss. In the ninth Truluck greetde Parler with a stinging double to deep left. Andrews was safe on Snipe's error of Kern's throw to first. Foster grounded weakly to Parler and Bradley drew a walk, fill ing the bases. With three men on, one down and the game at stake, Brodie met the grst ball pitched him in the final stanza for a beautiful single over short and two counted. It was Brodie's second single of the game. Parler and Andrews pitched beautiful ball and the game is considered one of the prettiest college contests played in Greenville in sonic years. It was any body's game to the last.
