Get Off To Good Start GOOD RECORD THUS FAR Even Breake with Good Teams on Trip in Lower Part of the State under the able coaching of Piceins Coles, who made a name for himself in tle basketball world while at Clemson, the fresImaI team has g ottenM otT to a good start oil what shoild prove to Ie a Iost succcstful year. With a iumbcr of good men to pick from. the first string is composed of old high school and prep school stars, who will next year he inak ing things decidedly hot on the varsity squad. The freshman started things auspic iously by holding the best that the var sity coild put on the floor to a win by a very narrow margin, some twelve or fifteen points. Tiey lost a close (ne to the Columbia High School on the Y. MI. C. A. floor before they had had a great deal of preliminary practice, and being handicapped considerably by the small floor. A short time afterwards they took revenge for this defeat and licked the high school by a decisive margin. A deciding game will probably be playedj later in the season. The Freshmen next became very hold and took on the strong Pacific MIills' out fit. With Joe Lillard out of the game through sickness, they nevertheless put up a hard fiiht, and it was only when the Pacific ran in Wallace and Knox in the last half that they began to forge ahead very rapidly. Last week, from Wednesday through Saturday, the Freshmen were away on a trip on which they played one game inl Sumter and three in Charleston. The men who made this trip were Captain Frank Sholar. Joe Lillard, Swink, larold De Lorme, J. C. Long, Jackewicz, Bobbie Shand, Coach Coles and Manager Wag non. Wednesday night the Freshmen lost to the Sumter Y. M. C. A.. one of the strongest teams in the state, by a score of 45 to 29. Then on to Charleston, where they licked the Charle-ton Ath letic cluh lhursday night in a fast. well-played game. Friday nilit they dropped a game, but Saturday night they took the Citadel freshmen to ride in their first game of tile season against a fresh team from another school. Joe Lillard at center and Swink at forward have been the heaviest scorers thus far. Sholar. LIong, Jazz and De Lorme have played good defensive 1:tll. colltribiting a basket here and there. Sholar has been shifted to forward be cause of his accurate shottinig and ha s been scoring regularly since that t ime. Let's wvatch the Freshmllen.
