EUPHRADIAN SOCIETY
The regular weekly meeting of
the Euphradian Society was held
Friday night with the following
program:
C. H. Yates, Current Events;
J. C. B. Smith, Witticisms; C. H.
Barlow, extemporaneous speaker,
gave an excellent talk on "The
Ideal College Man." The debate
was very spirited. Resolved, That
the U. S. should recognize the
present Russian Government. The
affirmative was upheld by G. L.
Taylor and R. II. Ramsey, the
negative by (. 1. Dabbs and I Ior
inbine. The judges decided in fa
vor of the Affirmative.
CLARoSOPHIC SOCIETY
The Clariosophic Literary So
ciety met 1'riday night with fair
ly good attendance. In the ab
sence of the president and vice
president, Mr. E. M. Smith, lit
erary critic, took the chair. Mr.
J. E. Millard acted as literary
critic.
The program was unusually
good. The first four members
taking part proved by their work
that their respective parts of the
program can be made really in
teresting and entertaining to an
audience. The debate was on an
ancient an( much mooted ques
tion and it was hard for the de
baters to bring out new and in
teresting material. The program
was as follows:
Declaimers-McSwa in, W. A.;
Folk, W. IT.
Current Events-Ready, Epps.
Orator--Chewning, C. S.
Debate-Resolved: That a
three-fourths majority of a jury
should be sufficient to make a de
cision.
Affirmative-Teal, Isom and
Marchant, M. Q. M.
Negative-Johnson, 0. 1). and
Clark, W. A.
The coimmittee oil debate de
cided in favor of the afirimative.
The impromptu debate, on the
question of telling children six
years old, who Santa Claus is,
was also interesting.
