FORM MASONIC CLUB.
Guy A Gullick President of
University Student Or
Oaniz;ation.
The first college unit of Ma
sons in South Carolina was or
ganized Monday in the Uni
versity Masonic Club. The or
ganization is entirely social
and all members of the student
body who are Masons are en
titled to membership, about 25
students being enrolled Mon
day as charter members. Offi
cers of the club as elected at
the organization meeting are:
Guy A. Gullick of Greenville,
y, president; Benjamin; Haile,
marshal of the university, vice
president;; G. I. Rentz of
va Branchville, secretary, and T.
e O. Sease of Little Mountain,
treasurer.
The Masonic Club is plan
C ning a number of banquets and
other functions of a social na
ture during the semester. Such
organizations of the Masons
among college students have
been formed in practically ev
ery State university in the
country, although the universi
ty chapter is the only club of
its kind in South Carolina. The
Masonic Club is probably the
only secret organization which
can be formed in any of the
South Carolina State education
al institutions. Greek letter
fraternities and "similar or
ganizations" being prohibited
by statute. A bill recently
passed by the house of repre
sentatives and now awaiting
action by the senate, would
permit the entrance of frater
nities subject to the approval
of the board of trustees.
