Lieutenant Mattair of Company A and the other offi. cers of the university battalior had charge of all preparations for the dance and a large meas ure of its success is due to these men. The decorations, which are in a patriotic vein, were a distinctive feature of the dance and are the work of the S. A T. C. men. A reception, substituted foi the regular freshman receptior preceded the dance begin ning at 7:30 o'clock and ex. tending thru two hours. UPQ ESTA BLI BROCKINGTON HEADS CAROLINA GAMECOCKS Fighting Tackle Elected Cap tain of 1919 Eleven. Heyward Brockington, a member of the junior academic i class, was elected captain of - the Gamecock eleven of next - year. . This. is Brockington's - second year of varsity football - and he has a letter and star to testify just how he worked - those two years. During his freshman year he was a star of Dixon Foster's freshman eleven i and the one year rule was prac - tically all that prevented him from making the team his first year. Brockington holds the record of having been starred in more newspaper writeups during his sophomore year than any other member on the elev en. - Brock is a genuine fighter - and his three years of Carolina football has shown him to be a very promising field general. He has the necessary experi ence and the pep which go to make a good captain. The Gamecocks ended their season this year with only one - defeat and that to the heavy 1 Clemson Tigers, champions of - the State. Wofford and Fur man went down in defeat and - the Cit.de. Bulldogs. fresh from almost a tie with Clem son were outplayed at Orange. - burg but only to have the last game of the season end in a a scoreless tie. * Among the letter men who 1 will probably be back next year are: Brockington, end and 3 tackle; G. Demobilization of the Stu ent Army Training Corps unit at the- university has already begun and will probably be completed by Dec. 21. Tele grams have been received from the governornmert ord;ing demobilization "as soon as practicable" and the work of disbanding the three compan ies has been held up only await ing the arrival of the proper papers. Lieut. O. L. Keith, per sonnel officer of the battalion, received the necessary papers Monday and the actual work of demobilization began Tues day. The program of demobiliza tion will occupy some time. Every man will have to under go a thorough physical exami nation and his entire physi cal record looked up. Every bit of individual and company property will have to be ac counted for. Despite this nec essary red tape the university officers expect to average about fifty men a week, completing the demobilization before the Christmas holidays. Beginning probably the sec ond term the university will re establish the Reserve Officers' Training Camp. The new R. O. T. C. unit will be conducted on almost indentical lines with the R. O. T. C. of last year with the single exception that the government will probably issue the men taking the course a cot and blankets in addition to the regular uniform. The mili tary trair.il:g afforded by the otablishment of this unit will be compulsory for freshmen and sophomores and voluntary for juniors and seniors. The men taking it will be re qired to drill only one hour
