EUPHRADIAN SOCIETY The Euphradian Literary So ciety held its regular election Saturday night, October 20. The following officers were elected: president, G. E. Shand; vice president, B. R. Earle; literary critic, J. M. Hagood; secretary, G. W. Collier; treasurer, J. H. Woody; financial secretary, F. P. McGowan; censor, H. Brocking orderly critic, R. C. Thonipson; recorder, A. Kohn; custos forum, J. H. Martin. The Euphradian Society held its regular meeting Saturday night, November 3. The newly elected offihers were installed and the literary program carried out. Readers for the night were: Coker, Vaughn and Hutchinson. Declaimers: Galletly and Get singer; ex temporaneous speaker, Simpkins. The weekly orator, M. A. Wright, gave a masterful oration upon the subjcet of the "Abolishment of Capital Punish ment." The query for the de bate, "Resolved, That Senator Robert M. LaFollette should be expelled from the United States Senate." Earle and Dusenbury upheld the affirmative, Evans and McLaurin the negative. The de bate from the house was excep tionally good, due to the lively t-)pic chosen for debate. The negative won the decision. CLARIOSOPHIC SOCIETY At the regular meeting of the Clariosophic Society November 3, the following officers elected at the previous meeting, were installed: H. E. W e s s i n g e r, president; J. C. Kearse, vice president; Cyrus L. Shealy, crit ic. J. F, Sutherland, secretary; J. S. Schneider, treasurer; O. C. Blackmond, recorder; J. P. Sif ford and J. J. Stevenson, moni tors; C. C. Sloan, S. D. Rogers and W. T. Duncan, board of pardons. After the installation of new officers the following program was carried out: declaimers, Lanford, M. C. and McLaughlin, H. L.; current events, Lee, H. L.; orator, McLaurin, C. W.; debate, "R e s o l v e d: That it should not be the policy of the U. The committee on debate re ported in favor of the affirmative BANTAM GAMECOCKS WIN OPENINC GAME Show Originaiity in Methods of Scoring. That there is something new under the sun was amply illus trated last Monday when the Car olina scrubs uncovered the only new way of making a touchdown now in captivity, defeating the Florence High School 11 to 0. The Bantams were somewhat crippled by the loss of three of their regular players and seemed unable to develope any real team work. The attendance was un usually poor, the whole grand stand being reserved for one of Florence's most prominent citi zens, who seemed used to being the only pebble on the beach. Bell, appearing for the first time in the backfield was easily the star of the game tearing off long gains almost at will. Mc Millan also appearing in his first game was the Gamecocks' best bet in the line, putting up one of the best defensive games of the season. Blout was as usual the mainstay of the Florence team. The Gamecocks made their eleven points by a combination of every method of scoring: one safety, one field goal and one toutchdown. The scoring began early in the first quarter when a Carolina man tack led a Florence back behind the line for a safety. The ball was kept in the high schol's territory by far the great er part of the period. The Cock erells' sc cond score cane in the second period on a field goal, kicked by McIllwaine. He tried again in the third quarter but the - ball hit the Florence safety man on the h,a'l and bounced over the line where Vaughn fell on it for a touchdown. At this point. Blackmon, the Carolina quarter not satisfied with one touchdown picked up the ball and started for the opposite goal. Coach Foster and Referee Langston agre d, however, that Blackmon was a little too greedy, and finally per suaded him to forego his eager ness. This is the Scrubs' first game this year, altho it is very prob able that they will get at least two more trins as a reward for their hard work in helping round out the varsity.
