PERSONALS The quartet gave an enter tainment at Swansea last Tues day night. Anderson Hardin has been forc ed to withdraw from college o1 account of trouble with his eyes James Simmons, '59, a prom inent lawyer of Charleston, vis ited on the campus last week. "Skeet" Henderson and "Bus ter" Parker were among the vis itors on the campus last week. Messrs. Hagood, Byrd and De Loach left college recently to re join the First Regiment at Cam Styx. A. L. Knight has returned t the campus after spending sev eral days at home on account o his eyes. The many friends of W. F Porcher welcome him back afte his recent illness at his home ii Charleston. H. C. Mobley has been confin ed to the infirmary for the pas few days with an attack o mumps. Lieutenant Coleman has re turned from Washington, 1). C. after a consultation with the au tnorities as to qualifications fo entrance to the officers' traininj corps. Dr. Currell delivered lecture on preparedness last week at St George and Lancaster. He als delivered an address on prohibi tion in Charleston Tuesday. GAMECOCKS DIVIDE TWO WITH INDIAN! Turn Tables on Newberry ani Win Second Under Eyes of Winthrop Damsels Carolina and Newberry divid ed a two game series in Roc lill last Friday, the Lutheran winning the first game and th University lads the second Both games were hard hittin affairs for both teams. The morning contest was sloi and uninteresting from start t finish. Carolina scored first i the second inning but Newberr overcame the lead in their hal of the same round. From the on it was simply a question c how many runs the Indians coul )pile up. The Gamecoks turned tabk on the Driverites in the aftel noon battle and redeemed then selves by winning- the seorn CAROLINA BACK AGAIN FROM FOREIGN FIELDS Loses First to Clemson But Wins Second From Erskine - The Gamecocks returned last - Thursday after completing a se ries with Clemson and Erskine. The Erskine game was moved up - to fill the gap left by the cancel lation of the Furman Carolina game. Carolina-Clemson The Gamecocks lost the second and last of the series with Clem son Tuesday by the score of 6 to 3 3. Toney pitched well with the ~ exception of the third and eighth, the Tigers getting seven hits in these two innings. . In the third a double, threei r singles and an error scored three 1 runs for Clemson. Two singles and a home run in the eighth ac _ counted for three more. t Carolina scored two in the f eighth and one more in the ninth. Seaborn was the star with the "Big Stick" for Carolina. Toney displayed splen - did form, striking out nine men and allowing no free passes. A feature of the game was a play by Clark and Horton, when run ners were on second and third. Carolina started strong when Sims led off in the first with a triple, scoring on Clark's double. Clark came home on Seaborn's single. Erskine and Carolina had not met on the athletic field for a number of years. s e Score by innings.
