FRESHMEN ASSAULT FACULTY MEMBER President and Student Body Take Action At a meeting of the student body on Saturday afternoon, the students went on record as con demning the assault made upon a member of the faculty Satur day morning and commended the instructor's action in the case. Both freshmen have left the campus. The assault took place on Sat urday morning back of Harper College and is said to have been the outcome of persogal feeling caused by the instructors report ing the two men to the honor committee. President Currell took imme diate action and indefinitely sus pended both men, said suspen sion to take effect at once. The student body also direct ed the honor committee to con tinue its investigations and take such steps as are in accord ance with their findings. LECONTE SOC'TY MEETS A. H. Beyer Reads Paper. Prof. Taber Speaks A deferred meeting of the Le conte Scientific Society was held last Monday night in Leconte col lege. Mr. A. H. Beyer read an interesting paper and Prof. Tabor spoke. The inclement weather, however, cut down the usual full attendance and many missed a most attractive meeting. Mr. Beyer is working under the Bureau of Agriculture at the United States Entomological lab oratory. He read a most inter esting report of the 1916conven tion of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Tabor, head of the Geology department, gave a most enter taining talk, illustrated with numerous vivid sketches, on the earthquake in the Southern Ap pala:hian system February 1916. This earthquake was distinctly felt in Columbia and was of the greatest interest. Professor Bradle: spoke on "The Court Life o: Louis XIV." with other enter taining features on the program Mr. de Launey gave a running account of the causes that led t< the treaty of alliance and ex plained how faithfully it ha( been observed since its signing. Professor Bradley took a sin gle day of existence as exempli fying the whole reign. He pre sented a vivid picture of th( court and gave many interestinj details.
