PERSONALS Coach Foster spent last week end at his home in Charleston. J. E. McElrath of Inman has withdrawn from college. Mr. Wagenor Giles, LL. B. '14 of Blackville, was a recent visit or on the campus. Dean Baker addressed the Union county teachers' associa tion last Saturday at Union, S. C. Anderson Hardin who has been at home in Chester on account of sickness, has returned much im proved and resumed his studies. D. B. Canady, "Dummy" Moore and J. C. Webb each spent about two days last week as in firmary residents. Herbert Barton was confined in the infirmary last week with - a bad case of la grippe. He is now out and much improved. W. E. Prioleau spent several days in Washington, D. C. re .lently. He accompanied his sis Uer who was returning to school ahere. C H. C. Horton, a member of cJast year's football team, has left I!college to accept a position with 'the Bethlehem Steel Company at c-i either Newcastle, Deleware or c4 Allentown, Pennsylvania. The sympathy of the entire student body is extended to Messrs P. M. and R. E. Allison who were called to their home in Lancater last week on account of the death of their grandmother. Dr. A. C. Moore delivered a lecture at thc Half Way School, near New Brookland, last Thurs day night on the Boll Weevil. The University Quartet furnished music for the occasion. After the meeting they all enjoyed a bar becue supper. Professor Coleman left last Fri day for Charlottesville Va. to at tend the Athletic Conference of Southern States annual Meeting. The University of Virginia are hosts this year. Dr. Frost of the University of Tennesee is chair man and Prof. Coleman secretary of the Conference. At the business meeting fol lowing the address the officers for the second term were elected. They are: liresident, 0. L. Keith, 1st vice-president, Mrs. Roman; 2nd vice-president Mr. de Lau nay;secretary and treasurer, Miss Margerite Roman. EMINENT ALUMNUS CROSSES THE BAR (CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONF.) moved to York county in 1865 and was educated in the common schools of Rock Hill and Eben ezer. In the fall of 1884 he entered South Carolina College and graduated in law with the [class of 1886. In 1890 Mr. Finley was elected a member of the House of Rep resentatives and was chairman of the Ways and Means commit tee. In 1892 he went to the Senate and served as chairman of the Finance committee. From 1890 ro 1898 he served as a mem ber of the board of trustees of the University. Mr. Finley was elected to Con gress from the fifth district in 1898 and has served continually since that time, being the oldest representative in length of ser I vic ) from the State. Mr. Finley's son, David E. Finley, Jr., entered the Univer i sity in 1905 and graduated with an A. B. degree in the class of 1910.
