AN APPEAL Carolina boasts of three impor tant publications, all of whi-h are edited by the students. These are valuable assets to the University and it is absolutely necessary that they be supported by both students and Faculty. The business men of Columbia lend a helping hand by their lib eral advertising which is sincere ly appreciated by the v:o ious staffs. But this is not enough. The publications cannot be a suc cess unless they are backed by the student body and Faculty. This is a late day to cry out. for help but the most expensive and most cherished of all these pub lications, The Garnet and Black, has not yet gone to press. A little mwe than half the men in our student body, and about the samle proportion of the Faculty. have not signed fir annuals. We can at least give our subscription if nothing else. It is not too late for us to render this necessary support and do ou, share to make the 1917 GAR NET AND BLACK the best of all. FAREWELL With this isstue of THE (AM., CoCK the present staff lays down its pen. We leave the office with regret and yet with Ileasure. As we glance back over our tern, we recall many happy experi ences, one of the happiest of which was the meeting of the r press association, but mingled with these were a few sleepless nights and other trials that must r come to make a newspaper man. It has been our aim to keep the paper up to the high standard set by previous editors. In this we realize we have fallen short f biut our readers have been too polite to tell us so. We feel that we have been benefited by our exp)erience and that we are los ing something by having to give upl outr (lities5, but w hat is our - Iloss is the readler's gain. We wish the newcoming staff much success and sincerely hope that they may accomplish what we attemptedl.
