Wonder how those who simply "devour" books like the Liter ary Digest. Some folks we know were born in the state of ignorance and have lived there ever since. The reason some folks don't' see much in these shadow skirts is that they don't look at them in the right light. Some freshman with a cocoa nut bean has said that he doesn't want to go to heaven because, there wvon't be ad -soul there. THE TRACK TEAM It is ->regrettable fact that Carolina has so far been unable, to sign any intercollegiate track, meets. Track work is unques tionably one of the greatest ath letic activities which is practiced, and Carolina has the goods. We sincerely trust that another sea son will not pass without sev eral track meets being held here. Never before in Carolina's his-, tory have the prospects been more propitious for a successful year in track work than this, and it looks like a shame to let such talent go by untested. CLEAN ATHLETICS As several members of the faculty said at the chapel hour Monday morning, athletics is losing sway in colleges, the rea son being the fact that it has not been run on a strictly proper basis. There is an economic law that, tersely stated, means "bad money runs out good money." So it is with athletics. It is but perfectly natural that when "'ringers" are used on a team that the team will be less re spected and less prized than one which is born and reared on the campus. Carolina has had a lesson in "ringer" football, and has just succeeded in wiping the blemish from her fair name. "Experi ence is a dear school, but even colleges will learn in no other." It is up to every man on the cam pus to put forth every effort I to overcome the dreadful stain of last year. Let every team next year be a "Carolina" team. We've got something to overcome but it can be done. SENIOR EXAMS The faculty have officially an nounced that this is positively the last year in which irregular examinations will be given to seniors. This has been a much discussed question on the cam pus and the action of the faculty has brought out several good ar guments for and against senior exams. After studying the sit uation thoroughly several popu lar members of the faculty de cided to introduce a measure be fore the faculty to cut them out this year, but upon the protest of the senior class they post poned the enactment of the measure till next year. We agree with the faculty that there are benefits in the new system but it seems to us that they are few and far between. From the standpoint of the de linquent senior the plan is iniqui tous, but it's an incentive to study during the term. With University Lecturers D)r. Currell lectured at the clos ing exercises of the Andrews school May 5th; made an address before the U. D. C. chapter at1 Win nsboro May 10th and at Pros perity, May 12th. Prof. E. Marion Rucker was the commencement speaker at1 Pleasant Grove school on May fth.
