DR. BARKER GIVES HAPPINESS LECTURE Addresses Large Audience in Ghapel Wedrnesday Night. Dr. Barker spoke to a large audience in the chapel last Wed nesday evening on "The Finest of the Fine Arts." Dr. Barker is a lecturer of note and has been for several years giving lectures under the auspi cs of the Redpath Chautauqua Circuit. He is now touring the country giving lectures in con nection with thd Y. M. C. A. The speaker said that happi ness was the finest of the fine arts and though the habit of being happy is hard to acquire it is the greatest asset to human life. * He said that everything in the universe was governed by laws and that these laws would not adapt themselves to individ uals- so that it was man's duty to conform himself to these laws and to put himself in harmony with the great law of happiness. le gave five rules, which he said, if followed, would bring happiness into everybody's life. First rule -Cultivate hibits of looking on the bright side of all experiences that touch your life. By this he said that the disposi tion could be changed by will power and determination. S, 1914, who has been studying chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, has taken the position in the State Department of Agriculture left vacant by Mr. Rhea's resigna tion. Prof. W. K. Tate, formerly' rural school supervisor of South Carolina, was in Columbia last week for the State teachers' meeting. Prof. Tate is now contnected with Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, Tenn.
