EASTER GERMAN GREAT SUCCESS Floor Was Crowded With Visit ing and City Girls. Ushering in the Easter Week festivities at the University was the large and enjoyable dance given by the German Club at the Jefferson Hotel Monday night. Fifty couples tripped the light fantastic to the tune of delight ful music furnished by Com stock's orchestra. The grand march began at 10 o'clock, forming a line extend ing the entire length of the ball room floor. At twelve o'clock an elaborate course supper was served in the beautiful dining room of the hotel. It was esti mated that over 125 people en joyed this sumptuous repast. After supper, dancing was en gaged in until the wee sma;l hours of the morning. A bevy of beautiful girls, ex quisitely gowned, lent cnlor to the occasion, making it one of the largest social events ever given by the University dancing club. Another added feature was the number of out-of-town guests present, besides the usual dancing set from the city. Among the visiting ladies were: the Misses Sadie Lipscomb and Daisy Wilkins, of Gaffney; Adel la Follin and Margaret Moore, of Charleston: Marguerite Patter son, of Barnwell; Flora Tobin, of Allendale; Nancy Offutt, of Louisville, Ky.;. The dance was held in the -gymnasium and was enjoyed by GIforty couples and many stags. Light refreshments were served. Her Majesty Elmira I, queen of Carolina Easter Week, was SEC. KING PRESENTS ILLUSTRATED LECTURE "The Present Day China" Was Subject of Inspiring Talk. Members of the Y. M. C. A. had the pleasure of hearing Sec. King deliver an illustrated lecture on China at the last meeting. First, the map of China was projected on the wall, and general facts were given about the great potentialities and possibilities of the giant re public. Then followed splendid views giving in striking details the social customs and institu tions of all classes of Chinese people, the slums of their cities, as well as their public places of beauty and picturesqueness, their occupations and their re ligions. The wonderful uplifting power of the forces of Christianity in parts of China, as yet practically untouched, was clearly pointed out and emphasized. However, wherever Christianity spread there has followed a new awakening, resulting in a more wholesome and better mode of living for that people. "Still, the work of saving peo ple for Christ has just begun there and it will require vast energy any determination to push the work to completion, but it is left to us to change the motto formed by a few mission aries from 'We can, if we will' to 'We can, and we will.' Mr. King, who has made a decided success as Y. M. C. A. secretary and who is universally admired by the members of the student body, made a most inter esting and helping talk. the guest of honor. Many sub jects had the honor of danc ing with the charming queen. Beautiful gowned, Miss de Graf fenreid was easily the true queen of the occasion. Members of the faculty chap eroned at the royal dance. Many visiting girls attended and ad ded much to the occasion.
