Glad to report that no knives were thrust into our vitals on the Ides of March. *** Dr. Chamberlayne is working out as the real suffragent of South Carolina. Members of the debating team now have a better idea of the "the Great Trinity." Keep your eyes on that man Chamberlayne. He has an axe for those ladies to grind. Long about 19,5 we expect to take parut in laying the corner stone for our new chapel. :: * * Federals and Comers ought to pick up several nice little tricks by watching the Gamecocks prac tice. Some brains in the civic club. Our best known chicken thief is scheduled to talk on pr'ison re form. What has become of the old fashioned freshman whowouldn't use any kind of soaip but Pack er's Tar. This Polka Dot play with its fluffy ruffle male chorus ought to be a fine thing for our tired business women. That tumble Bubber Langston took in right field leads to the belief that Rube Owen's ghost is still infesting the place. All dimpled, star eyed, creamy complexioned, swan throated ladies are opposed to woman suf frage, which, of course. makes it unanimous so far as the co educational department is con cerned. TENNIS. Football, baseball, track, and basketball are provided for by the athletic association, yet a sport in which every man on the campus can take part receives little consideration. The sport which we have in mind is tennis. Just now when baseball is mo nopolizing interest in athletics, we are apt to over look the im portance of tennis. Tennis at Carolina is practical ly left to take care of itself. It is true that about five courts are on the campus; but these are poorly kept. We are not all ten nis enthusiasts, .hut there are many who would play if given the opportunity. As a proof that interest is not lacking in this sport, every court on the cam pus is occupied (luring most of the day, even the one behind Elliot college. The fact that there are so few courts avaiL able, keeps many from taking part in tennis or even becoming interested in it, for to appreciate tennis one must play it. We have tennis meets with various colleges and universities every year, yet we have no sys tematic developing or training of a team to meet them. We have been fortunate in the past ii having a few stars that have won many honors for Carolina in this lepartment of athletics. but we have no guarantee that we will be so fortunate in the future. The more men we can get to take part in tennis on the campus, the better team we can put out. At the present not more than one-twentieth of the students at Carolina can be accomodated on all the tennis courts, keeping them in use almost continuously. Every spring, series of contests are p)layedl between various teams on the campus. These contests wouldl be much more helpful in developing a varsity team if more men took part in them. It seems that tennis ought to have some supervision. The varsity meni would be of much, aid in this work. Above all more courts are needed. We believe that tiisimportant and should ro. the n(lvisnrv bamrd. THE POLKA DOT 'CLUB. The Polka Dot Club recently organized is to be a permanent organization at the University. There are some on the campus who do not know or have a mis taken idea as to its formation or purpose. The club is composed' of the men on the campus who can sing or act in a play. In every case, it is left with the club to decide who is best fitted for taking partin such activities. The play this year entitled "The Tale of the Sea Serpent," will be presented on Menday and Tuesday evening of Easter Week. Mr. A. J. Caring, a member of Sousa's Band, composed the piece and is in charge of its production. The club is offering five dol lars to the student who sells the most tickets to the entertain ment. When you buy a ticket to this play presented by the Polka Dotters, you are in no sense making a contribution but will get value received for nickel so invested. This musical comedy club is a student body organization and as such should receive our hearty support. if we make it a suc cess this year, its success in the future will be assured. We are trying to make Easter Week at Carolina one of the most pleas ant weeks of the year. The pro duction by this club is one of the principal features on the pro gram for that week. hl:e proceeds realizel from the two performances will be equal ly divided between the club and Caring. That part received by the club will be at the d sposal of the organization. The individ ual members do not receive any thing for their servicts. As much as will be necessary to ke p the club going and for furt her de velopment next ye'ir, will be re served, and remain(ler, if any will brobably be given to the ath letic association. We can help in promoting the success of this student musical comedy club; by dver tising it, and talking it to ou - siders. Especially it is (< sired that on our visits to the various stores and places of busin ss in the city, we mention the adver tising feature of the pr ograms that will be issued at the per formances. The expense of dec orations. etc., will be large, arnounting to several hundred (ollars; all should be on hand when the curtain rises to aid in meeting those expenses wvith the pri1ce of the ticket.
