BROOKLYN FEDERALS ARRIVE HERE TODAY Basiness Manager Ward Has Grounds Put in Shape. Mr. John M, Ward, business manager of the Brooklyn Feder al League team, and the team trainer, Joe Quirk, have been in Columbia for several days. They have been supervising the ground work on Davis Field. s a re sult of their ed r s,e field is now in tip-top condition. The team about 40 strong ar rived in Columbia this morning. This includes officials and news paper men besides the players. Mr. Ward says that he has a large string of youngsters whom he expects to depend largely on and develop for future years. In this work, he said, Danny Mur phy, last year's captain of the Athletics, will be of great help. Mr. Ward also said that they were extremely fortunate in se curing Bill Bradley as their man ager. Mr. Ward will remain in Co lumbia until the team gets to go ing good, and then he will re turn to the North leaving Mana ger Bradley in charge. Quarters for the squad has been engaged at the Hotel Jerome. C. F. W. Sophomores Presents Comedy The Sophomore class of the College for Women presented on Monday night in the college audi torium a clever, sparkling little comedy entitled "The Love Story of Uneeda Ad." The play as sembled a good audience, among which were many University men, and the production was well received. It relates of how Miss Uneeda Ad was wooed by many well known advertising page characters, of her escape from the villain, Underwood's Deviled Ham, and of how she fell into the arms of her true love, the Pure Food Man, and of their happy wedding day. The play was set in Spotless Town, which was peopled with the merry and many colored folk of ad land. The play was in three scenes and ended in a rollicking dance. Shibboleth Club to Banquet. The Shibboleth Club, an or ganization composed of the Ma sons on the campus will have a banquet on Monday at the .Je rome Hotel. Since tue organiza tion of the club in September It has greatly increased its mem.. bership. At its regular meeting held last Monday night S. C. Dusen berry was elected secre tary andl treasurer in place of C. 1L. Shealy, who has withdrawn from the University. At that meeting S. B. Craig read an in teresting- panpe on Maunryn. PRELIMINARY' HELD Johnson, Cudd and McInnes Se lected as Euphradian Speakers. The Euphradian preliminary of the preliminary to the State Ora torical Contest was held in the Euphradian hall at four o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Johnson, Cudd and McInnes were chosen to represent the Euphradians in the preliminary which will take place in the chapel on Monday night. Five men took part in this con test. All reflected honor upon themselves and the society. The judges had difficulty in deciding the winners. They spoke in the following order: Bellinger-- "The] Governmeat of Money, by Mqney and for Money." Schwartz--'"And What Shall be Our Heritage." Johnson, H. -- "Peace, Patriot ism; Public Civic Services." McInnes-"The Land and the State." Cudd--"The Cause of the Child." Judges: Profs. Reed Smith, Green and Carson.
