BATTLE TO DRAW Crippled Gamecocks Tie New berry, Score, 16-16. In a rough and tumble contest at Newberry Tuesday night the Carolina cripples succeeded in tying Newberry 16 to 16. The University put up a game fight and in spite of the loss of three of the regular team they made things quite lively for the Lu therans. Brooker was prevented from making the trip by quaran tine restriction; Hanahan was out of the game with a sprained arm, and Poole had not yet re covered from a severe injury to his wrist, sustained in the game with Furman last Saturday. The score at the end of the first half was Newberry 11, Car olina 5. But in the second per iod Dick Reeves got loose and threw three field goals in about as many minutes. Trom this time to the end of the game it was nip and tuck. and when the game was called to allow Caro lina to catch the train the score stood Carolina 16, Newberry 16. For Carolina Reeves and Far rell starred, while Baker and McLean did good work for New berry. Although by some oversight George Washington is holding his birthday celebration on Sunday this year (with singular disre gard for inmates of educational institutions) the catalogue In its all wise wisdom has provided that Saturday shall be observed, and accordingly Dr. A. C. Moore an nounced in chapel on Friday that there would be no classes today. There was a movement on foot to hold over the holiday until some time in May in order that the time allowed the baseball team to be oif the campus could be extended. The faculty, how ever, strangely enough, appear ed to have more reverence for the "Father of Our Country" than the baseball team and or dered the holiday to be held on the day scheduled. earlier in the season the tie does not impair Carolina's chances of winning the State championship.
