On' last Thursday night in the gymnasium, before a hundred or more spectators, the freshman champions downed the sophomore champions in the first basket ball game of the season. The score was 11 to 3 ifi favor of the "rats." The freshman team was well organized. and worked together beautifully. The sophomore team was composed of good individual players but they failed to work in unison and were a bit-weak in basket throwing. The stars of - the freshman team were Huntley and Smith. Farrel played a good game for the sophomores, Class Football Dope. If one were to visit Davis Field or Gibbes' Green these aftenoorns he would think that the football season is in full blast. The freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors have organized and are now rounding their squads into trim for the class games. The men especially in the fresh man and sophomore classes are responding heartily to champion the cause of their classes. The freshmen under Coaches McGowan and Boulware are showing great form in the scrim mages. Twenty five new men are out trying to get places on the Freshmen team. "Big" Go ing of the varsity eleven is managing the "fresies." The Sophomores are being coached by LeRoy Dunn, and un der his instructions they are showing up well. They began practice Tuesday afternoon with fifteen men on the field.* Cap tain Geer has been on the job and brought out two teams. The Sophomores have the heaviest material on the field, and they are going into the games to carry off the laurels. The juniors are rather slow in coming out but are now being taught the lessons of football by "Bub" Langston. They have twenty men out and among them is some mighty good foot ball material. Manager Hill Is assisting in the coaching. The Seniors are again being coached by Fritz vonKolnitz with manager Ned Wehmann assist ing. They are going to put up.a hard fight for the championship of the season. It will be remem bered that- last year's seniors were class champions throughout their college course. This is the last chance for the class of '14 and they will scram~ble for the honors.
