V. P. 1. CANCELLED CAROLINA GAMES Virginia Institute Will Not Play in Columbia. Wake Forest Will be Here on One of the Days Made Vacant-Other Date to be Filled. Virginia Polytechnic institute, due* to play the University of South Car olina two games of baseball here the latter part of April, has canceled its engagement. Moffatt G. McDonald, manager of the Carolina nine, has secured Wake Forest to ,fill one of these dates, and expects to be able to announce shortly that a team has been secured to play on the other day left vacant by V. P. I.'s cancellation. Ten games. comprise the at-home schedule of the Gamecocks, the sea son opening March 20, with Lafay ette college of Eaton, Pa. The fol lowing week, which is Easter week, Davidson will be seen in action on Davis field, Tuesday and Wednes day. Oak Ridge will be here for three games, later, Washington and Lee for two, and \Vake Forest for one. The Lafayette team will play Carolina thrice, March 20, 21 and 22. Lafayette is known to the local fans. Last year the Keystoners made quite a favorable impression in Columbia, when twice they stacked against the husky Carolin ians. 'T'he games resulted in an even break, Carolina getting away with the first and Lafayette the sec ond. A large crowd witnessed the contests, and the attendance this year is anticipated to be even larger. While no definite announcement has been made to this effect, it is ex pected that the opening (lay of the season will again be an elaborate affair. Prospective Courses. The following are suggestions as to special courses that might be given in the university this term: By Prof. Snowvden-A course en titled, "Seeing Charleston, Past, Present and Future," with attention especially to my library and miy trip to Europe. Time-As long as you will listen. By Prof. Chamberlayne-A course entitled, "Why We Should Study Latin Longer," showing how by my special method of unpassable examinations I am enticing students to (10 so. Time-As long as you wvill standl it. By Prof. Wauchope-"My Theo ries on Shakespere; or the Discov eries I Have Made that Nobody Else Ever Imagined." Only my books medl in this course By Prof. Keith-A course en titled, "How to be Superior Though Polite." Open to Seniors and the Faculty only. By Prof. Morse-A course en titled "How to Appear Profound Without Being Detected..' No pre vious knowledge of anything re quired. Sick and Near Sick. H. G. Geer has left for his home in Belton for a few days on account of pink eyes. P. M. Rembert will soon be out of the infirmary. E. D. Goodwin is in the infirmary. Edward McCrady was in the in firmary last week. Brown, who was accidentally hit in the eve with a baseball last week, will soon be able to resume practice.
