It has been noted by many that there is not as much music at Flinn Hall this year as was last and in fact since the Y. M. C. A. building was added to the college. This can not be from the lack of performers. for, in spite of the fact that we lost many of our artists last year, there are still several old men here who can play as well as a goodly number among the first year men. It surely is not caused by a loss of desire on the part of the students to gather and listen to good music, for even now, when some low musician strolls in and lets his fingers wander idly over the keys, he immediately attracts a crowd. It has been hinted by some that this lamentable state of affairs has arisen because the tones of the piano are not altogether what a fas tidious musician woul(l call in har mony. It would be advisable for the Y. M. C. A. authorities to investi gate and find if a few dollars and a piano tuner could not remedy mat ters. At this, the beginning of the year, it is fitting that something be said in regard to the literary societies that are on the campus. There are many new men who came into college this year who have not yet joined either the Clariosophic or Luphlradian so ciety. Now, men, it may seem to you that you wvill not he benefited by belonging to either of these organi zations, but such an assumption can only arise from a lack of observation and investigation. iMany meni have conie to college not able to get on a floor andl face an audlienlce, and have been tranisformed into orators through the instruction andl practice received in these societies. Schneider of the junior acadlemic class spoke at the regular Wednesday night meeting of the college Y. M. C. A. Hius subject was : "D)eal squarely with all you meet." Mr. Schneider made an in teresting talk. It is the object of the Y. M. C. A. secretary to have college men talk to the members of the Y. My. C. A. on subjects of v'ital interest in col lege life for the next fewv meetings. So far 4f62 students have regis tered for work.
