There are no regular ol veterans on the team, though some of the men plaved star ball last season. Varsity Squad. The Positions. Hayden, at center, played during the entire game against both Auburn and Howard. He is a heavy man, is steady in his position, and snaps the ball vell. Center is well cared for. At right guard T. Perry is holding his place well. He, too, played dur ing the entire game against both Au burn an(l Howard. Schilletter and Bell are both good sized men, and will alternate at left guard. During the Hovard game Bell was out with a bad arm. Gaudy and Melette are both playing at times the position of left tackle; while Britt, of last year's faime, is gaining more fame at right tackle. At the ends are Grav, W. Perry, Lewis and Barnwell. Lew\is and Barnwell, though light, neither veighing Imore than 120 poulds, are fast and showed good vork against heavy men in both gaines played. Gray and Perry wvill play eids most of the time. Gray is a good man, plays a hard game, and tackles wvell. 1Perrv, on the other enld, is a steady player and can punt the ball when called on to do so. Bissell. ' At quarter, Captain Bissell plays a great game and directs the team in a master manner. His playing at all times is brilliant. Bates. the "old warhorse," plays the game at full back that he is famous for. H I hits a line hard, and works every minute of the game. Kangeter is an old man at half anld is a hardy, heady player. Coles is a last year's substitute: and, though light, is a quick, nervy player. Webb, James and Caughman are new men but, wvhen they are in the game they play their positions for all that is in them. Faris is developing into a ood player, and, may not remain Ofn the side as a substitute for all the season. The Games Played. So far the team has played only three games. The first against Au burn on October 4th resulted in a victory for Auburn. Tile filual Score was 29-0. Auburn's men were husky old veterans. Her line men averaged 190 pounds, and the back ficIld was only a little lighter ; while Clemson's team averages only about 16o pounds. Auburn was the victor, but she had to play for it. On Saturdav. October 21, the Tigers defeate(d Howard College.by the score of 15-0. Howard's men FRANK DOBSON Clemson's Heady Coach Leading the Tigers for Second Season. were perhaps a little heavier than the Tigers. The game was very good, but lacked pep all the way through. Clemson's work was the (uickest and the most heady. From these resuhs here oin the campus, a general opinion of the Tigers has been formed. 'The team work in each game was very good. Four large arc lights have been placed on the field, anld the teams practice now till late at nlight by these lights. This is necessary here as the team doesn't get to go on the field until 5 o'clock in the afternoon. The Best in the Squad. Tlo stay on the Clemson team, every man must wvork: for Coach Dobson soon dliscards all dlrones. Any team wvhich goes against the Tigers goes against a team wvhich works every minute till the game is finished. Clems'on's t wo games that are of most interest are the Carolina game (luring Fair Week and the Thanks giving game wvith Georgia Tech. Great Hopes. Every man in the corps of cadets is optimistic and hopes andl dreams of great things from the Tigers, especially when they meet these two teams. CLEMSON TIGER FOOTBALL NOTES Little Points About the Pla3 ers. Elzell, the tall boy who played tle game for the Tigers at guard for two years. is back ft college; but the injuries sustained whenl his collar boic was broken in the Tech game last Thanksgiving will prevent his playiiig this year. No one could be found who would exactly fill his place, but nothing can be rusIied over the piresent guard. The teai has been badly crippled several times this year. Bissell has had a sprained instep which gave him trouble for awhile, but did not prevellt his playing. Ilell is out of the gane at present with a bad arm. Bates has had a large boil and burn on his elbow which litilt him very badly. but, desp)ite this, lie played a plucky game against both Alubunli and II owarld. Bates, T. Perry and W. IPerry are all good punters, and Hissell's (rop kicks are beauties. Only four men ol the team are wearers of the "C." These are Bis sell, Bates, Britt and Kaigeter. A fter the corps leaves for the Fair the team will remain at the college and get in some more lractice on Bowman field before going to Co luimbia. Carolina plays in baseball next spring, among other teams, Cornell, Virginia, Lafayette, Pennsylvania State, Lehigh, Princeton. The Gamecock takes from a Tiger poet the following: DON'T SEND MY BOY To AUBURN. Don't send my boy to Auburn, The dying mother said; Don't send him (own to Georgia Tech, I'd rather see him dead; n1ut send him to dear 01(d Clemson, it's better than Cornell, nut rather than to UI. Clemson Tigers is their fighting name, Way up in the mountains where they wvon their fame. Dobson calle~d his Tigers from their mountain lair, Said: "Come all you Tigers, we're going to the fair." There'll be a big commotion when the Tigers. get loose, For we're going to oat chicken from the Gamecock roost. Chorus: Clemson Tigers, going to eat chickens, Going to eat chickens from the Game cock rooct. (Repent.) and sends back the message that "We will twist that tigrer by the tail."
