SOCIETY NOTES. The Clariosophic Society will in augurate its second term officers Saturday night. At a joint necting of the societies in the Clariosophic hall, it was re commended that each soci-ety should appropriate their share of the ex penses to Greenvood of Mr. A. D. Oliphant, meml)er of the executive committee of the State Oratorical Association. At a call meeting of the Clario sophic Society this week, Mr. R. E. Gonzales resigned from the State Oratorical Preliminary contest. Mr. 0. It. Adams, of Union, was elected to fill the vacancy. At a moeting of the Euphradian Society, held just before adjourning for examinations, I. F. Belser. 'io, Harvey Hand, 'ii, Law, and G. D. Bellinger, 'jo, Law were elected as contestants for the State prelimi nary. The Euiphradian Society will re sume work Saturday night and in augurate the newly-e'lected officers. UNIVERSITY ITEMS. At a meeting of the German Club a few days ago it was decided to postpone the mid-winter german until aftcr Lent. It is the intention of the executive committee to com bine this dance with the regular Easter german, given about that time, and it is hoped that the result vill be some compensation for th-e loss of the usual mid-winter dance. Prof. I1erndon Moore has been ill at the Infirmary for several weeks, but at present- his condlition is some wvlhat better and it is 'expected that he will soon be on the campus again. The University is well represented in the Legislature. Eight Senators and twenty-five repregentatives are alumni of this institution. Through the courtesy of-the mem hers of the General Assembly, a large numiber of students enjoyed trips to Winthrop, Clemson and Charleston on the special trains to those places. h'lhe February issne of "The Caro linian" goes to press in a few days, and promises to be the most inter esting number of the year. The recently elected staff assumes its duties with this issue and is under the able direction of Robert E. Sci bels as Editor-in-Chief. The new Science ll all, wvhich' has been bui.lding since the first of the session, is now nearinig completion. and wvill soon be readly for the roof. D)r. Wauchope's new boo0k on "Writers of South Carolina," has just been issuedl from the press5 of Th'le State Company, andl is receiv' ing widesp)readl and favorable comn mnent. It fills a long felt want, and erves to perpetuate the wvritings and lives of many South Carolina wvriters, and to present their works in a concise andl readlable form. Bradley leaves the early part of the summer for Ger many also, vhere he will be for a 'year in pursuit of his studies of the German language. A bulletin on Good Roads has re cently been issued by the University and may be had at the President's office upon application. T"he present plans for the old Sci cnoe 1-all contemplate turning it into use as a gymnasium and fitting the portion ndw used as class rooms with a swimming pool and all the apparatus of a first class gymnasium. The Tuberculosis Exhibit on Main street has been a source of great interest to the students. Here methods are shown by which tile disease may be successfully fought and its spreading prevented.
