South Carolina was from '68 to '76. *
The State is sadlv in need of a regular 1
'76 movement, anl when the white 1
people shall have goiter, in control
once more, they should follow the '
wise example of South Carolina by (
holding a constitutional convention '
and adopt an edncational ai:d property (

A lew ja; s ag<^a student ot jLiaviu

piety and irreproachable chaiacter, |
was i eqae?ted by friends to write a ,
true statement of the reign of terror (
in Eastern North Carolina. He did ]
sx He received through the mails an .
' anonymous reply. The handwriting (
was identified as that of a prominent ,
colored minister of Charlotte, aud
other circumstances traced the reply (
to this colored man. The reply was a ,
most scurrilous one, and among other
things he fait; that all negroes who
voted the Democratic ticket should be
lynched by the negroes. This colored
mini?tcr is one of "'the educated", and
his conduct seems to refute the idea
that when the ne^ro is educated he
can be trusted withpawc-r.
A correspondent tor the News and

interesting ariiole on the situation,

him will be sufficient to convey to our
readers some conception of what real
negro rule means.
Th3 r.egroes have been purchasing
all of the Springfield rifles that conld

as ibis correspondent expresses it. i
"Business is paralyzed"; property
values are mined. Northern capital ]
is thunnins North Carolina. A nnm
ber of actual instances of this are given
by the." correspondent.
Tlie worst feature of the negro rale ]
ia North Carolina is that white women ,
are not safe in the State. "White ]
female virtue is aiways in danger, and i

Within a week two Populists have
announced in the new?pap?rs their '

his daughter had been assaulted and

by negioes with criminal intent. f

instances ot mosf horrible attacks
on white women are given. The above .

Ti:e colored people may as well

The circumstances snrroai:di?<g the
