aud scrupulously observed in Germany.
Cakes, flowers, fruits and gifts
are a part of the observance.
^ On the 22nd the Kaiserin's thirtysixth
birthday was celebrated?she is
two months the senior of her husband.
We found the streets every where
decorated with an extraordinary
amount of bunting?in bonor of this
sweet, gentle woman. Oar ?wn
American flag was also unfurled on
many buildings.
The Turkish Bey, who occupies a
room in our flat, was invited to cele
brate Her Majest}'s "Ge buirstag" by

of Germany. The Kaiserin is beloved
by all. She is genile and wrapped up,

boys and a little princess make a beautiful

artist to ever be called a sensational
player. His techniqoe is so marveloui, j
however, that he produces ofteu startling
effects in his delicate staccato and
rnn?iug passages: convincing the listener
that tbepianois not a mechanical
instrument. Barth's entire programme
was throughout the perfection of tone
and execution, holding his audience

recalled him three times, shouting,

On the 16th ol October 50,000 troops

front of the King's Opera House to
celebrate the Consecration of Flags.

It began operation twenty years ago
with a half dollar in the treasury. It
is now supporting over one hundred
and thirty orphans, annually*, at a cost
of one thousard dollars a month.
The orphans are from the Presbyterian,
Methodist, Episcopal, Lutheran,

from every Soathern State, and some
Northern: from every profession and
station in society.
They are educated religiously and
intellectually by the Institution; and
in addition every boy and girl is qualified
by learning "some trade, to support

Their support comes from the voluntary
gifts of God's people. Provisions
and clothing and money,?all such
gifts make up the sum annually needed.
Ye--, help is needed now. On the
1st day of November, ihere was not
one dollar in the treasury, and none
expected save from the hand of the
Almighty Father.
The Orphanage is located at Clinton,
South Carolina. The town has three
railroads to carry in ?ift3 of provis
ions. Rev Wm. .t\ Jacobs, is its head,
to wh >m gifts of money may be sent.
This is the month for the thank
offerings. Next month is for Christmas
offerings; and the next for New
Year's offerings. Which shall it be?
