Oct 16-tf * —The visiting committee of .the Richmond & Danville Railroad have concluded their annual inspection of the -system. They express themselves highly gratified with the condition of the road, and it is said will make a very favorable report to the stockhold ers at their next annual meeting, show ing that throughout its entire length the system has greatly improved dur ing the pajit twelve months. —All parties who -bought guanos from us must settle on or before the 1st of November, or they wii lose the cotton option and will have to pay the face of their notes in money. All, both white and colored, are re quested to atjeud and participate in the proceedings. Railroad Accident.—Another rail road accident occurred on Tuesday morning near Ridgeway? The pay train, coming north, ran into (bo- rear of the local freight train bound in the same direction. The rear car was bally broken up, and the locomotive equally so. Fortunately nobodv but t. For the General Sessions.—The preliniiminary oxaminalious iu two cases against Mr. George Robertson, charged with having committed an assault and battery with intent to kill upon the persons of Napoleon Mc Daniel and John Mack, was held be fore Justice Catheavt on Tuesday-, die 20th inst. Messrs. Ragsdale & Rags dale appeared for the State and Messrs. McDonald & Douglass for the defence. The defendant gave bond to aw ait trial at the next term of the Court of Gen eral Sessions. Among Our. Excn vnges.—The Lau- rensville Herald has completed its thirty-seventh year—a ripe old age for a newspaper—and, far from losing any of its vigor, is now eprightlier than ever. The proprietor, Col. T. B. Crews, is one of the most experienced journalists in the State, and he has applied his talents to good purpose in making the Her aid rank, among the brightest of the country press. The Charlotte Observer lias been en larged to an eight-column paper, and its space is well filled with good mat ter. Its editorials am.timely, pointed and forcible, while the local and news departments are among the very best. There is no jjaper more welcome, or more constantly read, at this office, than the Charlotte Observer. The Edgefield Monitor, published at Johnston, has completed its eighth year under fine prospects, and it is uow one of the established institutions of the county. It is no longer an ex periment, but will live long to do it» share in the work of forwarding the interests of the community in which it circulates. ; make the fallowing statement, viz: Tie- old Board of Commissioners holding i over until the new' Board qualified and en tered upon their fiscal duties-, the old Board were in session the number of days and miles below specified- between Novem ber 1st and December tilth, 1882 at which time the new Board organized: ’ H. Richmond, Virginia. HEADQUARTERS. A Colossal Fraud.—TI\e people of Winnsboro turned out en masse last Monday night, the 19th inst., to see “Taylor & Mosby’s Colossal Show”. Thespian Hall, the place of the exhi bition, ^ras literally jammed. It was a “tljirty-five cenls show”, they called it, and everybody, men, women and children, were overcome with enthu siasm and excitement over the antici pated performances of the evening. At tlie hour appointed the curtain rose and a programme was gone through with—a little ventriloquism, mesmer ism and slight-of-hand tricks wore in congruously mixed, making up the most magnificent fraud ever perpe trated upon the good people of Winns- ^boro. “A little ventriloquism” we said.
