The Poor House.—At a recent,
meeting pf the board of comity com-
inissi’ouere, Mr. Matthew McOrady
was dected kceiicr of the poor house.
Mr. McGrady .is a one-armed Confed
erate soldier, and has already had
experience as keeper. He was in
charge of the poov’house just after the
war, but*Was removed when the Rad-
teals came into power. We have no
doubt he will make an excellent
^superintendent.
Frank LesME’s Sunday Magazine.
'•—The December number comes to ns,
'Outwardly greatly improved by a new
| and v$ry tasteful cover—inward!), we
think the magazine is scarcely capable
of improvemftitj the present number
brilliantly closes the fourteenth vol
ume. “Religious Denominations in
the United States” is continued, and
“What is Swedenborgianism?” is ex
plained by the Rev. J. C. Ager. There
are articlefetm “Buddhism and its Ear
ly Literature,” “The Episcopal Gen
eral Convention,” “Sacred Musicians
of the XlXth Century,” “The Shapira
Manuscript of Deuteronomy,” “The
Knights of the Temple,” Woman’s
Work in Germany,” etc., etc. Most
of these are admirably illustrated.
There are sketches, essays, poems, and
a rich department of fiction, with the
conclusion of the serial, “Air. Burke’s
j Nieces,” and short stories by Eben E.
| Rexfoid, E. F. Gordon Gumming, and
■other celebrated writers. The editor,
T. Dc Witt Tahnage, D. D., contrib
utes a sermon, and indeed the number
abounds with interesting and editing
reading. A single uufhber is sold for
twenty-five, cents, or $3 a year, post
paid. Address Mrs. Frauic Leslie,
Publisher, 53, 55 and 57 Park Place,

Statiailcs Prove It I
The Allwise Creator did not intend that
half the children born should die under
five years of age. Bat correct statistics
prove this to be the estimate. Mothers,
just think of it! And how many of this
number die from strong, griping and pois
onous medicines? Echo answers, how
many? Norman's Neutralizing Cordial
contains not one harmful ingredient. An
infant jilst horn can take it -with impunity.
Do*You Doubt It?
Mr. Frank Nolen, 68 Jefferson Place,
Baltimore, Md., heard so much of Nor
man’s Neutralizing Cordial that lie pur
chased a bottle for himself and an extra
one to send home to his family* , He has
never had cause to regret his purchase.
Reader, if you doubt the efficacy of Nor
man’s Cordial, try a small bottle, It does
not cost much. “Ti'e proof of the pudding
is chewing the bag." *
