Jerseys and ,Atrshire8.—The cor
respondent of the flews and Courier,
writing of the Chester fair, says:
“Sofne of the citizens of Chester and
Fairfield have for a number of years
devoted their attention to the Raising
of blooded cows. The Ayrshires were
at first the favorites. They were
‘cracked up’ by Gen. John Bratton,
and whatever the General says is con
sidered law and gospel fn this his
immediate stamping ground. But the
General, like many others, is fickle—
at least iu the cow line—and although
he still liodds that the Ayrshires are
the best milkers in the world he yet
thinks Hi at the Jerseys are the best
butter cowg. General Bratton has
devoted time and money to the raising
of cattle, and it is due to iiis efforts
mainly that this part of the country is
being stocked with thoroughbred cat
tle. Capt. John L. Agurs is General
Bratton’s echo in Chester, and' he has
done for Chester county what Bratton
has done for Fairfield. His contribu
