Parade of the Gordon Light Infantry- A Full Turnont of tho Company and a Cmd- iiapio Showing. Monday, May. 28, was tlie day fixed by^Jhe Acy,utaift General for the in- spcotiqn of the Gordon Light Infantry. General Mauiganlf, accopipftnied by Col, J. Q. MnrsbalT, of tlie Palmetto Regiment, came np oq the midday train. Six o’clock was tlie time fixc^l for . the rendezvous, and promptly At that hour the company assembled Yu full force in rear of the Town Hall. The roll-call showed forty-three men present, rank and file. Under com mand of'Captain Jor^an the company marched to the College green, the place selected for the inspection. Here a large crowd had gathered—in it quite a number of ladies. Gene.ral Mani- gault, the inspecting officer, was ac companied by Colonel .Mm’shaU and Surgeon Aiken, of the Palmetto Regi ment. The company, in column of platqons^ was marched in review be fore these officers, making a circuit of the northern half oV the green. The regular inspection of anus and equip ments next followed, ana everything was found to be in first-rate condition. The command was then drilled by the (japtaiii, and did very creditably. At tlie close of the drill General Maqi- gault delivered a short address to the men, coinplimenting them npon their tine bearing and upon the excellent condition of their &rm°. - He thought there had been a s’igtit falling off in the drill”, as compared with YAal of last year, and said that he felt it on1v neces- sary to mention the fact, in order to have the company soon attain its form at liigh degree ? pf proficiency. Cap tain Jordan responded briefly, thank ing the Adjutant General for tits kind words, and assuring him tjnt no eftort wotUd be spared to raise die company to the highest degree of military skill. At the close of his remarks he pro posed thriK cheers for General ManJ- gault, wmch were given with a will. The company then returned to their rendezvous and broke ranks. Li the evening the officers of tho Gordons entertained General Mani- gault, Colonel Marshall and a few in vited guests at the Winnsboro Hotel. The gathering was qnite informal, but wal altogether a decidedly plcarant one. It is due to the Gordon Light Infan try to say that they labored under some disadvantages on Monday, in the ranks, were at least fifteen raw recruits; together with some members wtitijlad iiot at|en^cd the drills at All regularly'. Under these circumstances it could dot be expected that the .coin- piny should make as mVe a display 'as they did at the inspection last year. Their exhibit on Monday was quite dj) to tbe average—that of last year was extra- ordinarily* fine. This was General Manigault’s view; and his pnrpose was to warn the company against anything like retrdgressioh; and to inspire them them with a new Ambition to regain the very high place he gave them last year. Wfe doubt libt that his admoni tion will have good effect; and that upon his neit^ visit to Winnsboro be will find the Gordon Light Infantry to be in better Condition, in all respects; than it has been At any time since the organizaiibn dft$^corps. ii usiy^nxyoTicEs. : Tfce “Gat* City.” entleuum fropi Atlanta^.
