A Horse's Weak Points.—The week points of s horse oen be better disoov- ered whi’e standing than while moving. If he is sound he will stand firmly and squarely on his limbs without moving any of them, the feet planting flatly upon the ground, with legs plumb and naturally poised; or if the foot is lifted from the ground and the weight taken from it, disease may lie suspected, or at least tendemeis, which is a precursor of disease. I! the horse stands with his feet spread apart, or straddles with the hind legs, there is weakness in the loins, and the kidneys are disordered. Heayy pulling bends the knees, -Bluish, milky oast eyes in horses indicate moon- blindness or something else. A bed- tempered horse keeps his ears thrown back A kicking horse is apt to have scarred legs. A stumbling horse has blemished knees. When the skin is rough and harsh, and does net move easily and smoothly to the touch, the horse is a heavy cater, and his diges tion is bad. Never buy a horse whose respiratory organs are all impaired. Place your ear at the side of the heart, and if a wheezing sound is heard it is an indication of trouble. Let him go. Insects of different species are attrac ted to the plants suited to the wants of their offsprings by the sense of smell, end that if some odor strong enough to overcome the natural odor of the plant, can be applied to the plant, or the earth around it, it will no longer attract the. insect, but will escape its depr There are many strong odojft^'carbolio acid, for instance, JJftTmight be em ployed for BUoh£flfp OSCe- T 5J.3duager8 oi Europe have a rath- Jmmitive way of using the slops of their houses. Dttsttrg. —There ore two ways of dusting a room. Os is to take a feath er brush, and, by briskly whisking off the polished surfaces of wood or marble, disperse into the breathing air the en tire quantity of dost particles there accumulated. The other is to carefully wipe with a cotton oc silken duster or chamois skin the needful articles, and then shake oat the cloth either in the open air or into a fire-place in use, whore the draught of air would carry the dust up the chimney. It is very hard work in a house where there is furnace heat or soft-coal fires to keep the furniture dusted. Where there are many pieces of faience or pottery a tiny bellows or a silk duster should be used. Heavy damask or plush upholstered furniture should not be brushed every day. Raw silk material soon voars out if subjected to severe rubbing. Twice a week is sufficient for upnolstered goods, or three times, if they are many- tufted, which catch the dust. Tne wood, metals and marbles, cf course, can lie wiped carefully with the duster daily—an old silk handkerchief makes a good duster. The best housekeeper, however, must never attempt to dost with a doth the frail petals of her flow ers and loaves, outside her pretty por celain and faience, unless she is wiUihg- to hare them come off in her fipgtrs, as these ornaments are modgjfgtf'separate ly from the pottery only applied previous. Some Western breeders state that it is a mistake to suppose the cross of the Cotswold and Merino to be an improve ment on the originals. The wool is neither the best for combing, nor can it compete in the mai-let with that from the pore merino in fineness. The car cass is not equal to the Cotswold, and the cross is not suitable in other respects as the Cotswold thrives only on ’ good pasturage, while the Merino is an active forager. The fact that the graziers of England expend nearly $7,000,COO annually for cotton-seed meal shows the high appre ciation in which this product is held. The advantages of naing this meal to seenre the quick and satisfactory ripen ing of animals fattening for maritet can not be disputed. If English farmers can afford to idvest so lavishly in cotton seed meal, American farmers, who can buy it cheaper, should find it highly profitable. Db.
