The Due Wt.st Female College.— The Associate Reformed Presbyterafh •says, editorfaHy: The friends of the Due West Female College will be gratified to learn of its increasing growth and prosperity. Tlie College clashes have not been so full in ten years as they are now. Tin's «pbaks well for the present administration. President Kennedy is proving himself a man for the place. The fears which Some entertained of the decline of the College at the death ‘of Dr. Bonner were natural. His qualifi cations for ■his position were so ma ke ! a it decided, Ids success so conspicuous, that it was not strange many should feel appre hensive of tlie effect of his removal on tlie College. Professor Kennedy and his assist ants have shown fhaftliCy fully appreciate their responsibility, and that the high repu tation m fiie t.’oifege is perfectly safe in their hands. This community and county and State arc to lie congrafulated on the present status and prospects of this insti tution, devoted to the education in mind and heart of those who give our homes and our society their ‘feWeetest delights; their purest joys and their highest 'refine ments. Professor Kennedy Ms many friends and acquaintances in Fairfield ■county, all of whom will be highly gratified to learn of the marked success that has nttbmled his efforts since ho has as sumed the presidency of the institu tion. While under the control and supervision of the late Dr. Bonner, it ranked among the first female semina- Vies of the South. D is therefore no mean compliment to tlie ability of Professor Kennedy as an educator to say that “the hollegc classes have not been so full iu ten years as they arc now.” Sudden Death.—Mr. A. Hamilton Reining, of ibis place; died Very sud- jjy on Monday night at about seven Mr. Fleming lias been in very ined'the different public offices of the county, to wit, the Clerk of Court, sheriff, treasurer, auditor, judge of ■probate ami county commissioners and find them all neatly and'properly kdpt. The books of the county commission ers and treasurer show the tinauciul condition of the cOtiuty to be good— there being a balance from lapx year, over and above all expcudifhVes, of more tluifi Tour thousand dollars. We have aflsO examined the jail, and find it iu good condition, neatly kupt and the prisoners well cared fpr. As to the poor house, we find it in Verv good condition, with a gOoTl garden and a supill but well cultivated farm. Wc learn that Mr. Haigood, the husband Of the matron, ill-treats, abuses and curses the inmates. We oarriJcstly recom mend that tlie commissioners do hn- n.ediately look after this gentlemafr. We have examined the books of the trial justices, and so far as we are able To judge the same are properly kept. The condition iff the public roads, bridges, etc., we find in as good condi tion as could be expected under the circumstances. We would, however-, call special attention to that portion of the Jtocky Mount road from the corporate limits of the town of Winns- boio to the live-mile post on said road. We would also call attention to a point on the “institution” road, near Stew art’s mill; and would recommend that the gate at the end of Brown’s bridge be removed, ami that a causeway, commencing at the branch and run ning seventy yards up the hilt, suf ficiently wide for one wagon, be put at Allen’s branch on the Collimbia road. We would also recommend that the bap be made larger, us the same is not sufficiently large to seat lire ■'officers of the Court. We desire to return to his Honor our siucre thanks for the kind aAd able advice and for tlie efficient help w(dch be lifts tendered us in the prosecutiofi of our duties. All of which is respectfully sub mitted. U. C. Trapp, Foreman. The Court of General Sessions 'ad journed on Saturday afternoon, and j'thc Court of Common Plefts opened I on Monday morning.
