The evidence, however was iiot sufficient to establish a probable ’cause, and the Accused was promptly discharged. —Report reaches us that the presi dent of the B. P. U. has skipped with bag and baggage for the “state of mat- S’imbfiy.” We would like to indulge the hope that the report is false, but circumstances arc such that we cannot. All contracts made between pwnefs of land, their agents, administra tors, or executors, and laborers shall be witnessed by one or more disinterested persons, and at the request of eitber party, be duly executed before a Trial Justice whose duty it shall be to read and explain the same to the parties. Such contracts shall clearly set forth the conditions fipon which the laborer or laborers engaged to work, embracing the length of time, the amount of money to be paid, and when, if it be on shares of crops, what portion of the crop or crops. Honor to the Dead.—Pursuant to notice in our last issue the funeral ser vices of Capt. James Beaty were held at the Presbyterian church on last Thursday at twelvft o’cVocfc. The pall- boarei's were Messrs. J. C. Caldwell, Thomas Jordan, I. N. Withers, G. II. MteMaster, II. L. Elliott and Jas. H» Rion. The services w^re conducted by the Rev. D. E. Jordan. There was such an assemblage of people on that occasion as we have rarely seen be fore. The wealth, intelligence and culture of Winnsboro, the llurdy yeomanry of the country, rich and poor, all came to do honor to the lamented d£ad. It was a magnificent tribute to the memory of au honored and esteemed fellow-citizen.
