The Land Association.—The Co lumbia correspondent of the News and Courier gives the following statement of the prospects of the Southern Land Loan Association, recently incorpo rated by the Legislature: Col. John R. Abitfey is still in daily re ceipt of numeious letters making inqui ries as to the Land Loan Association, and has reccived-a number of personal applica tions for the loan of money. Arrested.—Calvin Durham and Sallie Cooper, two negroes, were ar rested aud lodged in jail on Wednes day. Some of their property—corn and cotton—had been levied itpon under execution or agricultural lien, aud they undertook to interfere with the property after the levy. This bcfi<ng aw offence against the statute. Trial Justice Hogan issued his war rant, and, after a proper examination, they were bound over f»r trial at the iicxt term of the Court of Sessions. It may be, however, that Colonel Riou, of Winnsboro, who will be the leading attorney for the association, has beard from him. If Colo nel Palmer succeeds in his undertaking, as he hoped to do when he left Columbia, he will be able to return by March, and the company will be organized and ready for business about the 1st «f April. ” Of course the prospectus of thfe Company will be given to the public in due time and what the association does will not be done in the dark.
