Coi/)!:ed Candidates for Congress ?Amon<r the Hepn!>Iican nomination: tor Congress in the Southern State; there are an unusually large number o colored men, but it is learned here thai in almost if not every such instance the nominating conventions nave uoei composed of a majority of colonic men. Several colored men of prominence are also running' a? independeni candidates for Congress in the Souih notably in Virginia, North Carolin: and M ississippi. One of the regulai nominations recently made of colored men is that of Edward Deas for the sixth South Carolina district, who if at present employed as a laborer in the government printing office. Lee am Smalls, the two colored men who beaten by Mackey in the contest foi the Republican nomination in the seventh South Carolina district, are very well knovn here, having figurec hotli on the floor of the House and ii the departments and other public places. Both are of very unsavon reputation, but it is no more than Jnsi ro say mat -rneir characters will compare most favc rably with that of theii white competitor, whom they accusf of obtaining the nomination by unfair means. It is quite apparent that main colored mes! and many white adventurers have been prompted to run foi Congress in Southern districts becausc of the conviction that the House,, ii Republican, will seat them, whethci they arc returned as elected or 2!ot.?
