Activity Among tiie Radicals.? i The announcement of registration was enoagh to set the Radicals of this comity all agog, and on the very first day, the faithful presented themselves not only at Gladden's Grove but at several other precincts as well, expecting to meet the Registrar. Tlisy are wide awake, and mean mischief. A Nice Lkgal Point.?Among tiie cases before the Supreme Court last week wa* an appeal in the case of Charles Trapp, convicted of burglary j of the dwelling of Mrs. Mary Ladd. ; Mr. McDonald appeared for the appel- ! lant, and made a strong argument. His j point in briff is that burglary being an j offence against the habitation and not! against property, the proper procedure is to lay the property in the name of! the head of the house, who is the hns- j hand. To hold otherwise would be to ! require the Solicitor to examine into j all titles of property before framing an j indictment, and so either embarrass j the course of justice, or defeat it alto- i gether by quashing the indictment in ! the title to the property is not laid j i?: ti.-j legal owner. The case of Cain | Jul is? directly in point. lie was in- j dieted on the charge of arson of Mr. J Jack. Gladney's property. The indict- j mentwas quashed by Judge Pressley on j proof made that the property belongs i to Mrs Glndney. On a second indict-j ment laid in the name of Mrs. Glad- j ney, it was shown that there are other j owners as well, and, if we are not mis- j taken, Judge Cothran intimated that j the first indictment was properly j drawn. Another trial wiil be necessi- j tated. The vicissitudes of this case are strong proof of the necessity of adopt- j ing the views held by Mr. McDonald j in the Trapp case, or else of amending j the law to meet the emergency. The point is an interesting one, and has ' " ?* Am? C1 nfo never uuun iutcujuw m uui uiuu,. Sunday School Picnic.?It is the ; custom of the Presbyterian church ot | this place to have t basket picnic an-' nually for the pupils of the Sabbath j School.of that churchy and last Friday i was the day selected for this year. A more propitious time could not have j been chosen ?the day was bright and j the air balmy after the rain of the pre- j vions evening. The teachers and pu- i pils of the other Sabbath Schools in j fown were invited to Dftrticiuate in the ! pleasures of the day, and a goodly i number responded heartily to the in-; vitation. TIjc place selected for the ; picnic was the shady grove near the ; Presbyterian church. There, under the thick foliage of spreading oaks, ; the older pupils and teachers of the : schools were collected in groups, j watching the innocent games and ; pleasures of the little irirls and boys, j Swings?three or four?were provided \ for the occasion, and afforded one of J the chief amusements and pleasures of j the day Turret shooting contributed ! also to the interest of all lovers ?>f that kind of sport, while many amusing in- \ fidelity and juvenile pranks made the; grove vocal with the merry laugh. I About one o'clock an elegant dinner j was placed upon the tables, under the j shade of the trees. Everything that j could temj,t the appetite of a Sabbath j School seemed to have been thought | of by the ladies, and was spread outj in rich profusion and with the most! elegant tasje. (.'hal- : mers, the little girls and boys address- ! ed themselves with great alacrity to j the duty of the hour and it is almost! neeuiess 10 say max uaui auiy was uncharged in a manner entirely satisfactory to all observers. When the pupils had been bountifully served by j the teachers and others present, the i tabes were again prepared for the j teachers and invited guests?who seemed io enjoy the feast us much as much as those who preceeded them. The afternoon was spent in rambling over the hillsides in search of wild flrtifsi'O nluvino nil ?. ?rirfc rtf cr<tme*a .<inr1 in enjoying the pleasures of the social circle. The (lay passed away without a single incident to disturb the sweet harmonies or mar the innocent pleasures of the occasion, and we doubt not that may a little heart wili beat with pleasing emotions at the remembrance of the picnic of the 12th day of May. Some tilings are jog- j ging alonir pretty much after tlic old style, especial!v CulUe and the liens, whiie others preset!* a more satisfactory prospect and some hope, for not within my knowledge have the fields of this section presented a more favorable appearance for an abundant harvest than those sown :n wheat and oats. The oats crop is extra good, both in quantity and quality, and it will be but a short time until the scyfhesman will be busily engaged in harvesting these bountiful crops. May 10.?'The Mav Union Picnic did come off. sure enough, on Thursday last, the 4th inst., and a grand affair it was, too. We all fathered (I am speaking of the Longtownian.% bear in mind) 011 the banks ofthe Wateree about 11 in the morning, and after a''wee spell" the llidgewavite*: came in view. You know our sister town is never overlooked on such uleasant occasions. We. together with some of our Kershaw friends were divided into two squads, so to speak, ami it was put to a vote, that whichever side had the majority should have the right to appoint the place of rendezvous. The Kci>haws won, and so we, poor, forlorn we, were conveyed across the river, to the triumphant beat of the drum. Liberty Ilill contributed to our enjoyment, in the persons ot'a tine band of nusi cians, a brass band. Of course, as usual, the fair sex ..ere present, too numerous to mention, with a number of*juveniles of both sexes. We all went to "catch a minnow," but no minnow had we, though we cast eyes on a stray eel. and. and, a "wee sma'* perch, some of those "little kittens." little boys seemed to amuse themselves most of the time wading in the creek near by, trying in vain to coax the finny tribe to bite, until the sounds from the dinner table were given. The The youujf talks seemed to enjoy themselves in general, but, oh! poor "Vale," he was unknown over in Ker thaw atul yon know, when tiiar is the case, his words were '"few and fur between." About two o'clock, at the sound of tlie drum, dinner was announced, and we did ample justice to the delicious viands spread before us. Fish, flesh and fowl, served up in a variety of ways, added to pies and ccikos or an kukis, snowed uie cuanary skill of the Liberty Hill ladies, for which they have been long so celebrated. An auiusirg' incident occurred just before we dined. One of our canine friends made a raid upon a pie, to theamuseinentof many near by. After dinner we exchanged a few notes, and after hearing a few more sweet strains from the brass band, our party dispersed to their trans-'Wateree homes, much indebted to their L:l*ertv Hill friends - ?!.? Just as we were a few miles from home a trio of us rested on a log by the roadside, when a vehicle passed, and a certain lady quoth to "Vale'* that he ought to have been at the river when she crossed.
