GREENBRIER MINSTREL SHOW At the Community House on Tuesday night the Greenbrier Dra matic club entertained a crowded house. The black-faced comedians were quite amusing displaying mark ed talent. A very good sum was realized from this entertainment. LEBANON CHURCH. The hour of services at Lebanon Presbyterian church, Winnsboro Rt. 3, has been changed from afternoon, Sunday school at 2:30 and preaching service at 3:30, to morning, Sunday school at 10:00 and preaching ser vice at 11:00. Services every Sun day; preaching by the pastor, the Rev. J. Sproles Lyons, Jr. The ser vices will change to mnomiing on May 7th. The public is always cordially in vited and welcomed to attend these services. THE MICROBE OF LOVE. One of the best local talent plays that has taken place in Wirmsboro was given at the Community House on last Fridy evening by about thirty-five of Winnsboro's young people. The chorus girls were charming in their dainty and becoming cos tumes-while the old maids afforded a great deal of amusement with their absurd costumes and their schemes for catching a ~husband from amonig Winnsboro's remaining bachelors. The bachelor sceine was very good-each lachelor giving his own ideas lof how to keep out of the path' of the other sex. Mr. and Mrs. Henpeck gave a scene from g-eal life, she with the help of the rolling pin and he drowning his sorrows in the punch bowl. The part of the pur veyor~ of the Microbe which inocu lated its victims with the seductive lve serum was played amnirably by the attractive and capable coach, Miss DeLoche. On the whole the entertainment was a delightful one and was en joyed by everyone present. Mrs. Bezeel , Morris, of Florida, is spending some time at the home of her mother, Mrs. Julia Long. Union service at the Episcopal church at 8 o'clock, with the Rev. G. G. Mayes to preach. Mrs. W. C. Boyd, of Charlotte, and litle son, Blakely, arrived on Thurs day to visit Mrs. Boyd's parents, Mr and Mrs. John W. Lyles. It has been reported officially to the State Boarrd of Health that there is ;a suspected case of leprosy in Winnsboro. Dr. Hayden has made an investigation ad found arterial occlusion causing gangrene of parts of both feet, confirming previous di agnosis of attending physician. BUSINESS MEETING OF BRIDGE CLUB. At a business meeting of the Thursday Bridge Club at the home of Mrs. Dees on Wednesday after noon, the scores for the year were given, and it was found that Mrs. Amos Davis, Jr., held the highest score. On her return from Concord she will be the guest of honor at the annual party given, as is the cus tom, by the club. . Mrs. Amos Davis, Jr., was elected to succeed Mrs. Dees as president, and Miss Beck Hanahan succeeds Mrs. John Harden, Jr., as secretary. Mrs. Pritchard was elected as a new member of the club. BISHOP FINLAY H&R Bishop Kirkman G. Finlay was at St. John's Episcopal church on last Sunday afternoon. He delivered an unusually fine sehnon, with "Peace" as his subject, with that straigh-for ward nenner and magnetie person ality, of his that attracts immediate ly. He confirmed a class of four young men during the service. The choir repeated part of its Easter program. Bishop Finlay preached again at union service that night in the Methodist church. DINNER FOR VETERANS. The John Bratton Chapter of the U. D. C. will serve a dinner to the Confederate Veterans of Fairfield county on Memorial Day, May 10th, at twelve o'clock in the Community Building. The memorial exercises will be held at three o'clock. Dr. E. W. Pressley, -who is la well known speaker on such occasions will deliv er the main address. The Catherine Ladd medal, which is given annually for the best essay on some topic chosen by the chapter, will be pre sented. The John Bratton Chapter of the U. D. C. wishes '-o extend an in vitation to all of the Veterans and urge them to be presant at the din ner which is to be given them onWed nesday, May the 10th. DISTRICT CONFERENCE OF DAUGHTERS OF CONFEDERACY The Ridge District Conference of the United Daughters of the Con federacy, which comprises the chap ters of York, Chester, Fairfield, Kershaw, Richland and Lexington counties, will meet in Winnsboro, on Friday, May 5th. Mrs. W. F. Mar shall, president of the district, will preside over the conference. Mrs. C. J. Milling, of Darlington, presi dent of the South Carolina division of the U. D. C., and other state of ficers will be present. The John Bratton chapter of the U. D. C. will. serve a luncheon to he delegates, and to the Thomas Woodward Chapter of the D. A. R. A comedy drama that mill make you want to see it JUNIOR MISSIONARY SOCIETY. The Junior Missionary Society of the Methodist church was entertain ed on last Friday evening by Mrs. J. L. Robinson. After the program was carried out, a candy pulling was given the children, which was great ly enjoyed. MR. AND MRS. McDOWELL EN TERTAIN. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McDowell en tertained at cards on Thursday ev ening. Three tables of players were present. The women's prize, a hand embroidered handkerchief, was won by Miss Floride Martin. The gen tlemen's prize a deck of cards, was won by Mr. S. C. Kennett. A salad course with coffee was served. TEACHERS' EVAMINATIONS. The examination for teachers' cer tificates will be held at the Court House on Friday and Saturday, May 12th and 13th. There will be an examination for primary certificates which will en able the holder to teach through the 5th grade. Also examination for ele mentary certificates, enabling the holder to teach through the 9th grade. First, second and third grade cer tificates will be issued in each of these classes.
