Lewis paid a flying visit to Bethel Monday afternoon. The frost Monday morning did much damage to the young gardens. Little Misses Annie and Victoria Bray attended the Baptist Sunday school Sunday morning. Little Jack Humphries and little Tom Velleney are very sick. We hope they will soon be out again. Miss Eunice Broom spent Monday with Miss Dorothy Ligon of Green brier. Mr. D. L. Powell of Columbia spent Sunday at home. Miss Helen Mackin spent Monday with Miss Willie Smith of Green brier. Messrs Jim Humphries and Maxie Young visited in Greenbrier Sunday. Mr. George Drew has been very ill for the past week. Mrs. W. R.- Ashford visited her parents last week at Lakeland, S. C. WATEREE. The chain gang is gone, so now we will have good roads. It seems that we are to have a scrape gang in every district. Now a scrape is a good thing to build a dry weather road, when you don't especially need it. But the scrape on a clay road is a waste of money. Just as soon as you have a week's rain with heavy traffic, the road goes all to pieces and you can't tell that the scrape has even been there. Then the scrape must go back, waste more money, shape up the road again, to go all to pieces with the next wet spell. Many of our farmers are trying March cotton, trying to get ahead of the boll weevil, but he is sitting around watching for the first squares. Ice was reported in this community this morning, April 10th. Mr. J. M. After an interesting pro program had been carried out' and business discussed, the ladies spent a pleasant social hour during which the hostess served cream and cake. On Friday afternoon Mrs. J. F. Coleman was hostess to the Cather ine Ladd chapter U. D. C. The his torian, Mrs. J. C. Stewart, had pre pared an interesting program on Savannah, papers being read by Mes dames Macie Brice, T. W. Brice and J. C. Stewart. Mrs. W. M. Reid was elected as delegate and Miss Lila Nichcison alternate to the Ridge District conference which will be held at Concord church May 11th. Mi chael Brice chapter of Blackstock and Catherine Ladd chapter will be joint hostesses to the district conference. During the social hour Mrs. Coleman served fruit salad, beaten biscuit, cof. fee and cream. HICKORY RIDGE The regular meeting of the W. M. U. Society of the Fairfield Baptist church was held at the home of Mrs. G. H. Timms on Tuesday last. A very interesting program was carried out after the society.
