Children Crying for Food This will happen in Fair= field County unless we grow FOODSTUFFS for use within three months The Farm Preparedness COm= mittee is asking every farmer to fol!ow these suggestions: Every One=Horse Farm er Should Plant 1. Eight acres in corn. Two acres of this in an early corn, such as ear ly Dent. In this eight (8) acres, 4 acres planted in Cowpeas and 4 acres planted in Velvet Beans. 2. One acre in early peas. 3. One half acre in Sorghum for syrup. 4. One fourth acres in Sweet Potatoes. 5. Every 19th and 2Oth rows of cotton field be planted in Corn or Cowpeas. This to apply to fields already prepared for or planted to cotton. Where not prepared a pro portionate increase of corn and de crease of cotton. 6. Plant agarden of not less than~ one quarter acre, giving special at tention to those garden crops that can be canned or saved for winter use. 7. The white farmers came to the court house ~he day of the meeting bringing with them the colored farmersjto bear the speaches on prepared ness. I believe that the negroes in every county in the State will see more clearly their duty if the Newbrry -example is followed. Every negro preacher, teacher and pastor should get busy with pen and tongue. Whatever time [ have to give to this work I am giving free of charge and I am not asking anybody to do what I am not doing. If any one wishes to do so, corme to my place in Kedalltown when I am at home and you will see that I am practicing what I am preaching along this line. I leave on the 8th for Alabama to spend one week and I am urging our people between now and that time to get busy and plant every vacant lot in something to eat for man' and beast.
