Mrs. Wells is .just getting settled in her new home there. Rev, and Mrs. D. A. Phillips of Kingstree spent part of this *week here with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Robinson. They were return ing home from Greenwood, where Miss Myrle Phillips gradu ated at Lander college. Mrs. J. G Baird of Charlotte is spending awhile here with her mother, Mrs. Johhson, at the home of Dr. Oliver Johnson. We are glad that Mrs. Johnson who has been quite sick is much bet ter. Rev, and Mrs. Sam Hay and baby arrived in town last Friday. Mrs. Hay and the baby will spend awhile here with Mrs. T. H. Ketchin, before jgoinig Rev. Hay in Mooresville, where he has gone to become pastor o.t the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Meador has moved her boarding house to the House of Dr. J. C. Buchanan, recently completed. This will make a nice roomy house and convenient location for Mrs. Meador. Mr. J. Frank Watson will move to the house vacated by M rs . Meador. Mr. W. W. Turner, the county superintendent of education, has mailed out to the schools of the county a complete pro ranfor Field Day, to be held inWinnsboro on April 14th. The millinery openings wvere held last Wednesday and Thurs day and truly every lady in town and county got enough of "try ing on." The millinery parlors of Miss Lizzie Johnson and Mise Nettie Setgreaves were veritable bowers of millinery art, with hats big, little, and mid'dle-sized, to suit everybody, and all kinds of millinery novelties to dazzle the eyes. Fverybody is ready for Field Day next day? Social Affairs. Little Miss Carrie Mayes in vited a score or more of her: voung friends to help her cele brate her eighth birthday on Monday afternoon. The little folks gathered in the spacious halls and parlor until all had ar rived and then everybody went to the lawn, where every sort of merry game was played as only eight years can play them. Late: in the afternoon Miss Lethia Mayes called them in and the wonderful birthday cake was cut and other dainty refreshments served the 'hungry little merry makers. The March meeting of the Cul tus club was held with Mrs. T. H. Ketchin on last Friday after noon. Most of the members were present on this occasion, and a very profitable as well as delightful afternoon was spent. The program for this meeting was a study of Van Dyke, which proved very interesting. Late in the afternoon Mrs. Ketchin served her guests with a daintily tempting luncheon. The Study club had a most de lightful meeting with Mrs. W. W. Dixon on Friday the 9. .This band of c o n g e n i al ladies apply themseves heartily, and get a great deal of pleasure as well as profit out of the study of interesting subjects. The program for Mrs. Dixon's meet ing was a study of "Irish Sol diers" carried out as follows: Roll call "Items of interest,. about noted Irish soldiers"; Stoddard reading"Irish soldiers" - 1 by Mrs. Dixon; "Sketch of the life of the Duke of Wellington" by Mrs. John Douglas; "lodern i Irish Soldiers" by Mrs. H. S. Laval. The hostess served a dainty luncheon at the conclusio4 of the program. C With Mrs. J. M. Jennings as hostess the Round Dozen club held its regular March meeting on Tuesday afternoon. This club is a splendidly organized oue, but the meetings are always informal enough to make them especially enjoyable. . Pursuing the study of Shakespeare, which has been I arranged for this year's-work, "Henry II" was the basis of the program for Mrs. Jennings' meet ing. The roll call was answered by "Minor characters in the play, and the part they played."
