So be sure that your children are at school the day it reopens. - Again the suggestion is made t that 'Ihe News and Herald will d prove a most desirable gift.for a r friend at home and more especially p for those who -have moved away a from their old iome county, which a they it-ut still lke with filial p d6otion. After the forms for the fr page containing an explation f< the early issue of The News an Herald were on the press, we ha a disappointment in not receivin the ready print sheets. The were put in the office at Cha: lotte on time and were sent ot on the right train, as reveale4 :hrough a long distance message But as 29 was several hours late )n Friday night it did not get t Dolumbia till after 30 had left oi 3aturday morning. This is thi econd time that this thing hai iappened within the past foui nonths. It is happening witi >thers more often and ther ught to be something done t< iave the express on 29 put ol tere. The delays on this occas, on are very considerable. Let he Commercial Club take th( aatter up and see if they canno et it adjusted. W Have your Job Printinf lone at The News and Heralc ffice. First-class work. Prompi elivery. Reasonable prices. THE RAT DIDN'T DROP. ut a tore -Suitable Public Hall is to Be Had None the Less. The need for a public hall in Vinnsboro has been several timeE rpressed in the wish that a rat ould drop through the ceiling f the present hall so that efforts ould be made to have a hall iat was partially in keeping with 2e.dignity and the size of the >wn. Despite the fact t h a t 2ere were holes in abundance no it ever made himself the occa ion of securing the.. desired im rovement. And as rats can not e counted on except to make a ,oman run when they make beir appearance, it has been ecided not to wait longer on the ats and go ahead for the im rovements that are so much esired. That this is to be done t once will be received as a very leasing announcement; in fact it i almost good enough for a hristmas present to the com innity. A lease for the present hall for term of three years was signed 'riday by Messrs 7. . Des ortes, S. D. Dunn and J. Frank 'ooshe. The hall is to be ceiled, be walls are to be calcimined, nd all the wood work is to be ainted. Some changes will be ade in the stage, so as to make some larger than it. is at pres nt. All the old .seats are to be ken out and tlle hall will be eated through oat with opera hairs. A new piano will b e ought. The room now used for tailor shop will be used for a icket and cloak room. The photc allery will still be used for that urpose, though it is to be over aled. The building will have lectric lights throughout. With~ bese improvements the hall will e much more in keeping with hat Winnsboro really needs. 'he gentlemen who have signed is lease have not done so with he hopes of any great financia] ward. They will congratulate hemselves if they are so fortunate s not to lose anything in this ffort to help meet the demands f the town for a place for public ntertainments. What they most ope is that this small effort or heir part will result in some teps being taken at an early day or a hall that will be altogether reditable to the town, and while i8 true that they.have this pro. ierty leased they will gladly lena heir best efforts to this muel esired end. The work of making these im* rovements will be pushed and t is very much hoped that they ill all be made by Feb. 1, the ime Maro, the great magician, is o be here. Outwits The Surgeon.
