Repeal the Lien Law. Mr. Editor: I ask that you print the following paragraph from the Saluda Standard: "Repeal lien law, and to a cer tain extent conditions will be re versed. Here is something for the white supremacy advocates to talk in the campaign. It is too small a thing to say that the re- I peal of the lien law will affect a few poor white men-they would be taken care of. Just now the lien law is making the negro at the white man's expense, and the legislature knows it, or ought to know it. But we don't blame the negro." In connection with the above your scribe desires to make a few remarks.- I with a great many other farmers think the time for the legislature to repeal the lien law has arrived. In fact it has outlived its usefulness many years. I could give a great many reasons for the repeal of said law, but as it would take too much of your valuable space, I will only give one or two in t' a article. In the first place, it is ruining our labor. It has gotten so it is almost impossible to hire a hand at any price, or even work them on any terms that you can have any control of them. They will take no care whatever of the land or buildings, and the consequence is lands are all washing away. Mr. Editor, you often advise in your paper the necessity of plant ing food crops. But, sir, as long as the lien law exists, you can do othing. Repeal the lien law and you will see a great. deal more upplies raised at home and less otton. It seems that the dispen 3ary is the only issue in this cam paign, but I will say to the can lidates for the house of repre sentatives that the repeal of the lien law is of far more importance to the farmers of our state than the dispensary, for it makes but little difference to the farmers whether whiskey is sold in any form or not. But it does make a vast difference whether we can enn our farms or not. So I call >U each vandidate for the house o d(eClare at every campaign nieting, %htiher or not he will 'vork and vwe for the repeal of aid lien law, in case of his elec ion. Farmer. Here is the best remedy that we have yet seen for the much dreaded potato bug. Mr. Luther Ginn, who lives near Hix, in Madison county, says he keeps two peafowls in his barnyard and that they have full access to his potato patch. They work the patch thoroughly several times every day, and destroy all the bugs on the vines. He says they exercise the greatest care, taking pains to look under the leaves for the bugs. So far as we know the peafowl is the only fowl that has an appetite to tackle a potato bug.-Commerce News.
