Wednesday, July 18, 1906. -Misses Annie and Helen Coleman of Crosbyville have re turned home after a visit to Mrs. R. Y. Owens. -Misses Kittie Patrick and Nora Curlee have been chosen teachers for the Lebanon school for another year. -Mr. W. A. Neil of the Flint Hill section brought in a 10J pound cabbage to The News and Herald effice last week. Who can beat it? r-Mrs. A. W. Brown and three little children, who have been on a visit to her aunt at Davidson, N. C., have returned home. -Mrs. G. R. Lauderdale, Mrs. Jas. Macfie, Mrs. J. E. Cathcart, Mr. E. M. McNaul and Mr. J. L. Bryson, Jr., left last week for Glenn Springs. -Miss Isabel Pixley has gone to New York to study music under one of the best private teachers in the country. Miss Pixley will be gone for about a year. -Policeman Kirkpatrick has accepted the position offered him on the police force of Haztsville and will enter upon his new duties about August 1. He is a cool and deliberate officer and has rendered good service. -Harris, Lois and Charlie McDonald left Friday for Pine ville, where they will spend the summer with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harris. Rev. C. E. McDonald and Mrs. Jno. H. Cathcart also went up yesterday to be present at the golden wed ding of this aged couple which was celebrated yesterday.' -Miss Margaret Flenniken, who graduated at Erskine in June, has been chosen librarian of that institution. The college library has been consolidated with the libraries of the literary societies and now Erskine has one central library. The college is fortunate in its selection for beginning this larger library work. Death of 1r. B. R. Rosborough. Mr. Benjamin R. Rosborough, son of Mr. W. L. Rosborough, died at his home, in the Albion section, Saturday. He was in the prime of life, being 30 years of age, and a young man of the highest christian convictions. A mebe of the New Hope church, his remains were interred there Saturday at 1 o'clock. Killed by the Train. John Heard, a negro brakeman, was killed by a train in the north ern part of the town Saturday night. He had been sent out from an extra north bound freight to flag No. 29, a passenger train, and it is supposed was sleep on the track when the south bound train struck him. The remains were carried to Columbia. Entertainment In The Court House. Misses Alberta and Mary Baker will give a musical enter tainment in the Court House Thursday night, July 19. at 8.S0 o'clock. These are two blind young ladies of this county who are trying to complete their edu ation. *No admission fee will be charged but contributions will be gladly received. Up-to-date Shops. Mr. H. W. Hanaban has opened up a wood and iron shop in the DesPortes building at the corner of Congress and College streets. Mr. Hanahan is now very busy getting all his machinery in place and when he gets everything in readiness he will have an up-to date shop in every respect. For running his lathes and other machinery he is putting in a gasoline engine. Mr. Hanahan is a fine machinist, having taken a special training in both wood and iron work, and having had con siderable experience in this work. He will have with him both Messrs W. H. Smith and A. J. Hinnant. Watch for his an nouncement. Mr. Boyd Goes to Iiartsvllle. The many friends of Mr. W. C. Boyd will regret to know that he is going to leave Winnsboro. He has accepted a position as book keeper with J. L. Coker & Co. and will take charge of the same aont August 15. Mr. Boyd is a young man of most pleasing ad dress and is sure to mzake friends wherever he goes. He is at pres et a member of the town council in which position he has served for four years. He and his wife will be greatly missed from. the conmunity when they leave. Mr. Boyd has sold his grocery business to Mr. C. A. Robinson of the Horeb section, and he has taken charge of the same. A subscriber has sent us in i request to announce a certain party for magistrate in one of th judicial districts, but nothing was said about pay for this service and there is strictly "nothinE doing" on this basis. Church Improvements. A number of improvementi have recently been made on the Baptist church. The walls have all been repapered, the interioi wood work all painted and a neu carpet bas been put on the door, These improvements add greatly to the appearance of the church, which continues to prosper. The ball lub needs money to support it, so come out, cheer and help~ them n to victory. Death of Mr. A. W. St. Amiand. Mr. A. W. St. Amand died at is home in Columbia last Tues ay. For more than two years e had been an invalid from a stroke of -paralysis. He was 58 ears of age and leaves a widow and four children. He was a ative of Charleston. His death marks the passing away of an ther Confederate soldier.
