On this the SSh anniversary of the birth of Wade Hampton we can riot better serve his memorv than by recalling to Iminl those words of Iis last utteranlcle to be given to the peo- i ple of tlo State lie loved so* well, spokon when he lay upon his death oe(l: "God bless all my people black and white-God bless them all." That was the message left by the geat Hampton, and on this day we shall do well to ponder it for a few momeuts. It was the message of a great heart that had freed itself of all rancors and bitterness. It was an appeal for good feeling, for charity and for "justice toward all. It was a message worthy of the daring soidier of four years' constant con bat who had laid aside his sword to take up the duties and obligations of peace, and who had wrought with all the strength of Lis being for the bringing of his beloved State out of the darkness of Reconstruction into the light of better, brighter days. If Hampton, the man who later saw his State cast him aside, could so speak of his peo ple, all his people, and could so forgive and forget, shall not we be able to do as much? Shall not we, too, be able to say with him, "God bless all my peo ple-black and white"-and so honor ourselves while honoring the memory, by regarding the counsel, of the dead Hampton. His is the message of peace and good-will-peice and good will to all men, black and white -peace and justice and hon orable regard for the rights and the happiness of all. It is a noble message, worthy of the acceptance of South Carolinians. On this day it will be well for us to plant its sentiments deep in our hearts, with the hope that they may there abide. Carolina Spartan. Caught Cold While Hunting a Burglar. ;Mr. Wn. Thos. FIFTY CENTS jN some conditions the *gain from the use of Scott's Emulsion is very rapid. For this reason we put up a fifty-cent size, which is enough for an ordinary cough or cold or useful as a trial for babies and children. In other conditions the gain is slower-health cannot be built up in a day. In such cases Scott's Emulsion must be taken as nourishment; a food rather than a medicine. It's a food for tired and weak digestions. Send for free sample Scott & Bowne, 409-41s Pearl St. Chemaists New York Soc. and $1.00. All druggists Final Discharge.
