It was, to all her friends, an astonishing incident, that Mrs. I. B. Hunt, of Lime Ridge, Wis., was cured of her dreadful sick ness. "Doctors," she writes, "had given me up; friends were ready to bid me the last farewell; clouds of despair darkened my horizon, and I was a wreck on thes shorea of des pondency, when I bega~n to take Electric Bitters, for my frightful stomach and liver complaint. To the astonishment of all, I was benefited at once and am now completely and mira culously restored to health." At McMaster Co.'s, Obear Drug Co.'s and John E. In the make-up of a paper it is possible for all kinds of mistakes to occur. There are possible any number of typographical errors, which are always credited to tha printers-at least that is the defenee the editor always makes. Then, in putting the matter in the paper, eyes have to be kept wide open to see that everything goes where it belongs and that nothing is left out. In the make up of the News and Herald last week there was a mistake of the latter kind, which we consider very fortunate for us from a busi ness standpoint. However much we had thought previously that the majority of people did read advertisements, our conviction that they really do is now ever so much stronger. A number have asked us whose advertise ment that was that had no signa ture to it, which would indioatae that they not only read the ad vertisements, but read them thoroughly. Now Tyson and Jones' buggies have been on the mitket for the longest time and they have been sold in Winns boro for a good many years by one of the town's leading mer chants, Mr. W. C. Beaty, and yet some of these readers were not able to associate the name of this celebrated buggy with the dealer. All of which goes to show that no article, whatever its superior merits may be, ever be comes so well known that the use of printers' ink will not serve te keep it before the people. A Dozen Times a Night. "T have had kidney and bladder trouble for years, and it became so bad that I was obliged to get up at least a dozen times a nigbt," says Mr. Owen; Dunn, of Benton Ferry, W. Mr. Editor: Taking it for granted that the columns of your paper are open to a free and fair discussion of any matter of pub lic interest, I offer a few reasons in favor of the present system of handling the traffic in whiskey and other liquors, as against the "high license system" which it is said, will be the resultant system, if the Dispensary system is abolished. As all are aware, uuder the present system, the net profits on sales are divided between town and county in support of the public schools; in other words, all of the people are directly benefited; whereas, under the "high license system" only in corporated towns indirectly through the party conducting the high license saloon. Also under the present system the sale of whiskey is restricted, being sold in original packages only, and not sold to habitual drinkers and minors, and operated only during the day, thus excluding the allur ing features of the high license aloon such as pool tables, keep ing open at night, etc., which are so harmful to the youth of our county and state. All will concede that were it pessible to have real prohibition, no blind tigers, it would be best. But it is said to be impracbicable; %nd if so, would it not be wise to follow the advice of one of the ages of the past, who said, "Of two evils choose the less?" One of the best read men in he county and a close observers :f men and matters of public in erest, after a residence here of aearly a quarter of a century, leclares emphatically that the lispensary system of handling whiskey and other liquors is the best law ever adopted by the 3eneral Assembly of our State nd a great many others who do their own thinking and are not blind through prejudice concede the same. What sensible man or woman waits a reinstatement of the 'Old Saloon System", with its midnight brawls, murders and other crimes. Observer. Leter to W. C. Eleaty., Winnsboro, Y i, Dear Sir: Two years ago the estate of the late Congressman Scott, of Erie, Pa, painted 24 Rolling-Mill houses one coat Devoe at a saving of 11 per cent for paint (lead-and-oil was after the jot)). That's how the tale reads, We infer what really happened. The buyer, as usual, went by the est of paint; got bids. Lead and-oil bid low and guessed the quatity low; the saving was only 11 per cent. Nobody selems to have thought of thiis: the painting costs two or three ticies as much as the paint. How much did we save on the painting? Don't know. The tale ends with this: We often refer inquiries to those honaes, fur wear of Devos. That's a good-enough story; but nobody knows what it is. Our only dficulty is rant of paint-intel~igence.
