Seep or Every Farm. We have always held that th farm where sheep ought not t be kept was arare one. Farm devoted mainly to other branche of farming' may well afford t keep a small band of sheel Among the reasons given by writer in one of our exchange why sheep should be kept o every farm are these: They ought to be kept to aE sist in tidying up the farm. This they will do if they ur given half a chance in the weed they will consume, in the wa that they will trim up the gras in lanes and paddocks in fenc borders and even on the sides c the highway. They will gleai amid the stubbles and will . fo low up in pastures where othe stock have grazed. But fe weeds or plants will escape the: notice. They have a variety < feed at all seasons of the ye. and will thrive inch better tha: when confined to one article diet. They ought to be kept, since virtually costs next to nothing t keep them, is the way a writ( puts it in an exchange. Ti farmer will shake his head an say they must be fed in winte That is true. But they only r< quire to be fed when the groun is covered, and when so fed the only consume three or for pounds of dry food per day. I the summer they not only pic their living without cost, but the labor through all the summ< season for the well being of ti farm. The weeds that one shee will consume in the summer ai about as mauf or more than tl average farm boy can be pe suaded to destroy in a sing season. In a certain sense, ther fore, a small band of sheep wage-earners. The offset to t wage-earning is the extra feucir required to keep the sheep place. Of course, on a grai farm it would not pay to fen< the whole farm in order to ei close a small band of sheep.
