From the OoncorA Mercury. Plank
Road meeting in Concord.
^ Agreeable to previous arrangements, a res'
]?ectablc meeting of the citizens of Concord assembled
this evening, in the court house, for the
purpose of holding a l'lank Road meeting and
to adopt Resolutions indicative of the sentiment
?j x .1 ..i.
prevailing in tins vicinity witn regain iu mw? >uujcct.
Caleb Phifcr, Esq., was called to tlic Chair
and E. F. D. McRoe appointed Secretary.
Maj. liufus Barriuger explained the object ol
the meeting, and several addresses were delivered
in Lei alf of our ecnlempb.ted projects in
the way of Plank Roads.
The following resolution was offered by R.
Baninger, and unanimously adopted?
Resolved, That in the opinion of this meeting
it is highly essential to the interests of the town
of Concoid and to the county of Cabarrus, to
form connection, by means of a Plank Road,
with the proposed iloads from Clicraw and Fayetteville,
to near the mouth of Rocky River.
On motion of Mr. W. F. Taylor, a committee
of the whole was appointed to attend the meeting
of the Fayetteville and Centre Plank Road,
to be holden at Centre sometime during the ensuing
week.
Resolved, That the proceedings of this meeting
be published in the 'Concord Mercury' and
'Wndcsboro' Argus.'
The meeting was then adjourned to meet at

To Raise Asparagus.?Procure the seed ol
the u Giant Asparagus." let them soak in pretty
warm water, for 24 hours, add to the water
about a handful of strongsoot, which fixes the
Glutine contained in the seed, and is good for
garden seeds generally. Have a bed made ol
sufficient size for containing the seed, which must
be sown in small furrows, one inch in depth, and
18 inches apart, covering them up, and pressing
the earth with the back of tire hoe, or spade,
keep them clear of grass and weeds, give the bed
one or two slight top dressings of salt during
the season, bv October the 20th, or thereabouts.
It is said that Gov. Kossuth has contracted
with some two or three manufacturers in Cincinnatti
furore thousand saddles, at $12 each,
they will le of sufficient size for planting out;
which may be done as follows: Dig up your
land 18 inches deep, (called trenching.) rake it
over neatly, open furrows 10 inches deep, and
4 or 5 inches wide, the rows being two feet asunder,
dig up your plants with all their roots, plant
them in the furrow?, with the crown of the
plant two inches below ihe stir ace; let throot
aprtad out a little, at the side of the treuch
then cover them up, and give the bed a good
top dressing of stable manure; then top *dn*s
with salt, until the bed looks white. In February
they will put forth, but do not cut them the
first year; give a top dressing of salt about 1st
of July, gather the seeds when ripe, and about
the 1st of November top dress with warm stable
manure, and the next spring you will have
fine asparagus. Gendell.

Anson Plank Road.?We understand the
contract for building the above road has boon
awarded to Maj. Macfarlan, at a price a little
over the Engineer's estimates. The contract embraces
the entire superstructure and materials at
the sum of $57,000. The work, we understand,
is to be commenced forthwith and pushed to its
completion. We hope that a larg" portion ot
the next cotton crop will pass over this road to
market.? Chcraw Gazette.
Orange Trees ok Florida.?The St. Augu<tine
Ancient City says, the orange trees in East
Florida have been but slightly injured hv the recent
cold weather. It is inclined to think that
it will turnout to be a positive benefit by the destruction
of the orange insect, which has so lone
jnfested them.
The Rcsn to California.?The agent of the
California Steam Transportation Company, in
Cleveland, has sent to his employers, since tin
1st November last, 185,000, which was received
by him for for passage money from persons bound
to California-.- This immense amount of money
has been received from persons principally in
Ohio and Indiana.
Mr. Forrest and Charles O'Coiior, esq., it is
said, had some warm words in Broadway, N. Y.
on Saturday, but no blows were struck.

GRISWOLD'S COTTON
flMIE Subscriber has a better location and is much
X better prepared for manufacturing GINS than any
other Establishment in operation. He has made and
sold double the number of any other maker in the
country, his sales averaging one Thousand per annum.
This unequalled demand justifies the reputation claimed
for his Gins, viz: that tlu-y Gin /cuter, run tighter,
cUan the seed better, take cut more moats, make better lint,
huie Patent Water Boxes, far mare durable and secure
against Fire than any other, and that all other water
boxes whether double or single are, not only a deception,
but aro an infringement on his rights, and will subject
the Planter who uses them to j>ay damage for a viaIntinn
of flu* PutOttt' Tjlirs
These advantages justify him in offering to supply the
Planting Community with Gins on better ttfrms, according
to quality, than any other Factory, Premium Gins
not excepted.
Planters of South Carolina can order these Gins
through Messrs. llerrioti Brailsford, Charleston; Mr.
M. V?. Coleman. Hamburg: Messrs. Law ? Drumon,
and Mr. Jesse Drafts. Columbia; Mr. Duncan Malloy,
Cheraw; Mr C. Mathcson, Camden; Messrs. Townsend
& Douglas, Bennctsville, and his Travelling Agents, or
