WANTS TO BURY THE HATCHET
i . ?
To the democratic voters of Chesterfield
County.
The State Frimary election has
come and gone mid all questions as
to State officers have been settled
fairly nnd peaceably so far as our information
goes, contrary to my
wishes and judgment the March convention
was culled and a ticket suggested
and without my knowledge 1
was placed oil the campaign committee
of the State for this county,
while I would have greatly preferred
not to ha ve assumed flint responsibility,
1 did so nt the request of as
patriotic citizens as Soul It Carolina
affords and have attempted to discharge
the duties itlllirwiul inv.ii
CI MIU
ms fairly a? possible and has liean, as
was said in the Advertiser some time
since, my wish to elect Sheppurd delegates,
ami have nothing to do with
local county fights and in all lav
public utterances I have endeavored
to avoid local politics. The-people
have Hpoken decidedly in favor of t lie
present administration and it is fortunate
that there was a decisive majority
one way or the other in order
to avail better contests. Tliere1>eing
no longer any question of the choice
of the white people for Governor it is
the duty of all to co-orporute heartily
in bringing about the election of the
ticket for State officers ami Presidential
electors which will be nominated
at the coming State Convention
as well as the election of the
candidates nominated for county
judicial and congressional offices.
I write therefore on behalf of the
Conservative faction to pledge our
co-operation to consummate that
end and assure those of the opposite
faction that so far as 1 am able to
exert any influence our differences for
this campaign shall remain hurried
in the ballot box where they were deposited
on August 30th and the
ticket as nominated shall receive our
support regardless of those differences
The pledges of the March Convention
to abide by the result of this primary
so far as I am able to brine- it about
mIhiII be scrupulously observed. And
let me conclude by hoping that the
Mine for peace and harmony 1wih arrived.
W. F. Stevenson.
Member State Conservative Cornmitte.
Cheriiw, S. C.
A CARD.
Jnst before the last Primary I gave
Mr. W. Swinnie the money to navo
mo some tickets printed. Without
my knowledge or consent Mr. Swinnie
had his name put 011 the ticket
for Coroner. I have no idea that ho
intended to injure me or thought or
the harm that would result to both
from the appearance of a trade. I
wish to assure my friends that there
.was no trade between us and I regret
the occurrence tho more so liechuse
somo of my opponents are trying to
make capital out of a blunder for
which I am not responsible. Kespt.
