We have had the pleasure of forming the acquaintance of Prof. Durham, who is a gen? tleman of pleasing address. We expect a suc? cessful session of our public schools, which ?opened on Monday with 75 scholars. An ox that had been tied by the neck and left in the yard of the Joint Stock Store, was found on Saturday night, choked to death by the rope. Bis owners endeavored to make the best of it by saving bis hide and meat, and when seen by this deponent they were whet? ting their knives oa Mr. Smiih's grave stones. Mrs. Dr. W. J. Pringle met with a serious accident yesterday, rcsultiug in the breaking of her right arm at the wrist. It seems that a .stearn driven.by Mr. Cooper, which was just ahead of Dr. Pringle's, became frightened from some cause, and ia their fright over-turned the buggy and wheeled about as if they intended j to run away. The Doctor being afraid that they would ran upon him, told his wife to leap J oat. In attempting to do so hastily, she | struck ber foot against the froat wheel aad fell with much force upon one hand. The jar caused a fracture and dislocation at the wrist joint. She was carried to the house of Rev. Mr. Hickson, where the bones were proper', y reset by Drs. Hughson, Mood and Blanding. Up to last night she was doing very well, and it was expected that she would be carried home to-day. Court. Orange Isaacs, who was said to have been j implicated in the murder of John Davis, near j | Lynchburg, ia February, was liberated to j ? day, the Grand Jury having found no bill | 1 against him. Dr. R. M. Brelsford, of Clarendon, died on the 2$th ultimo. Mr. Edmund Scarborough, of Ma nu ville, died on last Wednesday. Mr. Henry L. B. Wells, of this place, lost a child on last Saturday. There are two colored patterns, with designs for fans, a Hue of decoration that is now all the rage. The historical novelet, "The News From York? town," which bas attracted so much attention is appropriately concluded in this number, in time for the Yorktown Centennial." All the stones and novelets, however, are good ; in fact, in "Peterson," only the very best are given. We cannot too often -refer to this magazine as altogether the cheapest and the best of its kind. Where only one is taken, "Peterson" should be the one. for it fills more wants than any other. The terms are but two dollars a year. Great deductions are made to clubs, and handsome premiums are given to persons for getting np clubs, among them a beautifully bound photograph album: in short, the inducements of every kind are un? precedented.
