Dantzlcr, of Si. Matthews, sent his
wagon and team ouj,, for .woodl and
after cutting a tree it fell across one
of the horses and crushed him to
death. A little son of Mr. Dantzlcr
also barely escaped death.
A, fire occurred in Newbcrry on
the niglit oPThc1 Vrth idstant, which
laid the most valuable square of the
town in ashes. The courthouse was
saved but considerably damaged. The
loss is estimated to be about S100,
000 and only partially covered by ail
insurance of 300,000. It is not posi
tively known how the fire originated.

fire breaking out at this season of the

Edward Canan, was arrested in
Lew^sviljo on the Ldttl, for the fatal
stabbing, on that day, of another ne
gro, named John Wright, at the Grist
mill of W. T. Rivers, Esq., in the
Ptotniss section. Coroner Milchet
held the inquest, and constable J. J.
Moore brought the prisoner to jail
where he' awaits trial.

badly in several places. His little

Mit. Edward J. Buyck, son of Rev.
Peter Buyck, died of Pneumonia on
the 13lb instant at Lewisville, ufter

family connection to mourn his loss.
