Carbolic Acid Tor Lice on Animals. , - J . ? - We have so many letters, the Ameri can Agriculturist says, nsking for and re commending cures, that* we arc induced again to allude to that wonderfully effec tive destroyer of such vermin, Carbolic Acid. This is used in the form of soaps which may he easily applied in water, making a moderately strong suds. Crc sylic acid is a cognate substance, almost always associated with carbolic acid is and uuder, the trade name of "Crcsylic Soap;"'an excellent article is advertised and furnished. We have employed this soap to rid our shelves of ants, our clip boards of cockroaches, poultry of lice, dogs and cats of fleas, and not having occasion to use it upon our horses or neat stock, have supplied acquaintances whose stables, were infected. "NVc have even prescribed a bath of Crcsylic Soap and wa ter for a newly arrived immigrant, and in ever}' case of its application have had the satisfaction of learning of its efficacy. Farewell to mercurial ointment, thnt efficient, but very dangerous article in careless hands 1 So long as we obtain car bolic compounds we banish it. ? it ? - - - ? RE-roTTiNG Plants.?During a resi dence of some years near to a nursery, with the proprietor of which I was- on in timate/terms, I was surprised at the num ber oC complaints made by amateurs, Arc., as to the difficulty they experienced in re-potting plants. Fr?nt conversations with my friend, I elicited the following facts: My friend was in the habit of sup plying young window plants?Geraniums, Fuschias, Ac, to his customers* many of whom brought their own pots. The plants generally did well the first year, but when they were attempted to be transferred to larger pots, in nine cases out of ten they died. His explanation to.me was simple and feasible, and experience has taught me its truth. Of the pots brought to him, great care and attention were invariably paid to the insides, as it was deemed superfluous to wash the inside of a pot into which soil was lo be put. The con sequence was, that when the plants came to he re-potted, they could not, by any fair means,he made to leave the pots, and a knife had to he used to induce thetn to do fo, which, iu most cases, destroy the root:', causing decay of the plant, and frequently death.?The simple remedy for this is, before putting tin soil into a pot to well wash and scrub with a brush the inside of the pot with soap and water. When this is done, a smart tap, of the hand on the bottom of the pot will, at any future time bring the plant and soil out in one solid ami conip?c4. mass, and the difficulty experienced in re-potting is ob viated.?Gardener's Cjiron. How to Have Plenty of FOR age.?The. farm must ho horribly poor, orjts mnnrgement execrable, on which nro not made fodder, shucks, oat, barley and wheat straw enough to supply all the stock with "rough food/' If wheat he cut in fho dough state, ns it should he, and threshed out as soon ns dry enough, the straw, well preserved, will be first-rate food for any kind of stock, even for sheep, as I know from experience. Yet there are not a few farmers'in our State, on whose places you may m ..y fall, immense piles of wheat straw rotting, and whose cattle are deeimaUd) every winter by nclu.'.l starva tion.
