LET’S GO. .
SHOPPING |
Perhaps “Let’s Go Christmas Buy
ing” would be a better head because
that’s just what everyone is doing
these brisk winter days. Hustling
from shop to shop has been my de
lightful job these past few days, to
bring you what outstanding New
berry shops are displaying for the
ideal Christmas gifts.
*
If you are a young attractive wo
man you are building up hopes for
the future and more than likely
you’ve started you a hope chest! I
think the perfect chest would be the
Lane Cedar chest as shown in the
attractive display window of Maxwell
Brothers and Quinn. One chest I saw
in the window had a figured walnut
stump center panel used with matched
oriental woods and marquetry inlays
and convenient automatic rising top.
Another chest—the widely advertised
Rosalind Russell chest—is also
smartly modem with a central panel
of walnut stump and end panels of
walnut separated by elm burl. This
chest is equipped with the automatic
double tray. With each chest pur
chased, Maxwell Brothers and Quinn
is giving free a dainty musical pow
der box which is a joy in any home.
Of course you want yours to be the
supreme and different gift. Why not
give a friend or relative a permament
for Christmas, and have them go to
the Newberry Beauty Shoppe where
skillful operators do most becoming
work. You, too, will wish to look
your prettiest at Christmas time and
a permament now will insure you that
wish a long ways. But remember,
it’s most important to phone the New
berry Beauty Shoppe today for that
appointment, because the few days
before Christmas would rush you and
the operators to exhaustion.
James Cagney turns from the com-
ingly appearing role as an Irish
fighter and appears as a swing-band
leader in his latest picture, “Some
thing To Sing About”. Does ft
sound all out of order? Well, you
will find Cagney just as great in this
type of picture as his usual run, and
he is supported by Evelyn Daw and
Mona Barrie. For an evening of
of pleasing entertainment, see this
picture at the Opera House either
Monday or Tuesday of next week.
When a tough fighting Irishman
turns into a crooning band leader,
it’s “Something To Sing About.”
For great charm and originality
in gifts, go to Miss Mattie Adams.
Here I have found a wealth of gifts
along enumerable lines. There’s a
whole table of twenty-five cents
handkerchiefs; embroidered and plain
pillow slips, table covers, luncheon
stes, and bridge sets; exquisite even
ing bags; dainty baby garments;
large convenient knitting bags; love
ly tapestries and pillow covers; cos
metics in many well known brands
and nice little perfume sets; unique
cigarette boxes for him; and just
lots of other things along novelty

otherwise.

lines. Something new I noted were
“Vesquettes,” which are the newest
in sport wear—a vest to wear under
ypur coat suit, over a plain dress, or
with a skirt and shirt. And Miss
Mattie’s supply of Christmas flowers
has no limits. Aii of the Christmas
flowers and plants are for sale here
at any time and artificial Christ
mas wreaths will add to the seasonal
motif of your home. Don’t forget to
get your Christmas cards, seals, and
wrappings at this shop, too.
If you want to see a perfect para
dise of Christmas gifts just stop by
Turner’s Jewelry store. The array of
gifts here, I find, are most dazzling.
Turner’s is one of the largest stock
ed jewelry sho>ps in this section and
prices are as varied as you could wish
for. Elgin watches for her or him are
to be found here in every style and
price. Numerous chains and crosses
that are so very popular now are on
display. Turner is showing cameo
rings that make nice gifts for men.
Those who wish to express their sen
timents a bit more privately will
find the very finest diamonds and
rings here to choose from. And don’t
forget, a ring bearing his or her
birthstone will make an ideal grift.
Everyone has a right to one’s
choice, but I beleive everyone’s choice
is the same when it comes to selection
of the finest of fine candies—Whit
man’s. The Sampler Box, and l
have one right by my side now eating
away, is the largest selling candy in
America. It’s my choice on all oc
casions for every piece is delightfully
and surprisingly different. Other
packages put out by Whitman’s in
cludes Farhill’s, Penn Wynne Choco
lates, Old Fashion Box, and a spec
ially designed package for the child
ren. Each box has the attractive
Christmas covers. But the important
fact is that the Whitman box, be It
the Sampler package or any other, is
sold at Stokes Drug. The Christmas
list always includes candy—make it
Whitman’s this year.

A ton of Coal would certainly be an appreciated gift, but what
we really want to get over to you is that you shonid inspect your
