We regret that the letter from
Ridgeway was mislaid until too late
to app ear in our last issue.
The Athletics (juniors) expected on
Thursday to play a game of ball with
the Chester boys ; but to their dis
appointment. were informed at the
last moment that the Chester club
had not organized.
The pressing need of the day is
an automatic fan that will hoop a
body cool during an afternoon nap.
Such an invention would prolong
man's natural life a dozen years, be'.
s'ides putting him in a bettor frame
of mind for facing the hereafter.
We are requested to state .that
Rev. C. E. Chichester will deliver
a sermon, under the auspices of tho
Young Men's Christian Association,
in the Presbyterian church to-mor
row night, at 8;j o'clock Sub
ject-The personal influence of
young men. The public are invited
to attend.
IMPoII'rANT IfE''INo.--We are an.

be a meeting of the Democratic
Club of t'wnship-no. 4 at the Town
Hall on Tuesday evening, July 'd, at
a qJuarter past eight o'clock. A full
attendance is requested, as business
of the greatest importance will be
brought up for consideration.
Thbe .spring sessionof Mount Zion
Instituto closed on the 29th instant.
The summer vacation will last about
eight weeks. Notwithstanding the
terrible .financial depression, this
thmno-:horored institute .is doing comn
p)aratively well. With .a return of
prospenty her future is bright.
Patronage is what is most needed to
insure a goed school.

AMUSEMENTS AT RIDGEWAY.

call-An Enjoyablo Occasion.
[aOM AN OCCASIONAl, COIRE81'ONDENT.]
RIDow.AY, Juno '25.-On Friday
night last our town was onlivone
by tho second of a series of charadoe
and tableaux to which the pupils of
Mrs. Simmons' school are troating
the citizens of Ridgeway and vicini
ty. Wo arrived rather lalto at th<
hall and found, as is invariably tll(
case, that it was full to ovorflowing
the fair sex. being well represented
It was with feolings of pride that w<
saw so many young and beautifu
faces that would do credit to any
place. The entertainment begi
with a salutatory from Maste
Bolick, after which was read a con
position by Miss Eloise Davis. Thi:
was followed by a play in which th<
idea of woman's rights was predomi
nant. In one sceno, tho ladioe
being absent, attending some moot
ing, the poor "hien pecked" husban
was left to churn and the son t<
cooking "johnny cakes"-in whicl
perfol'nanceo I need not say the:
signally failed, much to the disgusi
of the mother and daughter upoi
their return.
Charados, tableaux anl plays ful
lowed, interspersed with conpusi
tions-il of which were so goo(
that we mako no discriminatioi
among them. One of the play
deserves especial notice, as havin,
been composed by Mrs. S ---- ani
presented for the first time to the
public. The plot was excellent
showing that "where there's a wil
there's a way"-to improve one'
self regardless of surrounding difli
culties. The attention of th
audience was hol till a late hour
They were then thanked and dis
missed by Master Parker in hi
usually happy style. These enter
tiiinmonts, if continued, will do
great deal towards heightening ti
aspirations of the youiag people o
Ridgeway towards literary attain
iments, and in this way will"accomr
plish great good.
